Doo Dads

Does anyone know what happened to Doo Dads Snack mix? I loved it when I was younger, But I can seem to find it in any store anymore.
I know it would be easier to find out this question if I could remember who made them.

Nabisco (now a division of Kraft) made them. I used your location on the Kraft website for a location search for Doo Dads ( http://www.kraftfoods.com/main.aspx?s=product&m=product/product_locator )and came up with nothing.

I too found them at the Kraft website and emailed asking if they are available anymore. I grew up eating them as well...sort of. I'd pick out the preztels, my brother the peanuts. We'd leave the rest for Mom. I'd like to see them available. Until then I guess it's Chex Mix.

I love the stuff, too. Subtler, saltier spice mix compared to Chex Mix.

I wish GF would make an "all-Chex" Chex Mix, I pick out the pretzels and other chaff, too.

Does anyone have a good recipe for Chex Mix? I find the one on the side of the box...lacking. In the past I have had success adding extra Worchestshire, Tabasco, parsley, parmesan cheese, but no standout, gotta-write-that-down winners.

Well, I was going to submit my mother-in-laws, but that's seems bland compared to yours. She does the butter, worcestershire and Lawrey's, that's it adn I think it's pretty darn good. I'll keep checking back for recipe submissions!

I use more of everything than what is on the box. I use melted butter with lots of worchestershire, garlic powderand onion powder.

Then I mix corn chex, rice chex, cheerios, kix, small pretzels and pecans and sometimes crispix.

After tossing it in the melted mixture, i bake slowly and then whenever I am stirring the mixture occasionaly as it bakes, it sprinkle on extra wochestershire, garlic and onion powder.

I have to be careful or I will eat too much of this stuff.

I forgot about Doo Dads!!!

Fondly remember eating them at my grandma's kitchen table over many summer nights while playing dice and drinking Vernor's!!!!! Fun was had by all!!

Yes, I think it was Cheese Tidbits. I looked in one of my grocery stores that I frequent Monday night, I'll look in another Thursday-maybe I'll find them there. No luck at the first store. Now this was one of the foods that I played with. I would break one in half lenghthwise and put around the other one and pretend that they were hot dogs. Oh, the silly things we did as children.

Please! Let me know if you find a source for DooDads - I think about them often and wish they were available somewhere...Chex Mix, especially now that they have eliminated the peanuts from the basic varieties, is a poor substitute for DooDads!

A: For your answer we contacted Nabisco, the company that makes Cheese Tidbits. And it says, unfortunately, the reason you cannot find them in your local grocery store is because Nabisco discontinued the product at the end of 2002. It wouldn't say why because of proprietary reasons, but it does still make "Cheese Nips", which is widely available.

Oh heck yeah, sometimes they'd break in half, longways, on their own. And the really soaked up the worchestshire!

Only problem with putting on more "wooster" as you bake and stir is that the mix stays gummy, never really dries out.

Nuking in microwave is quicker, but doesn't give the same texture.

Hey, if anyone finds out about doo-dads please let me know. I have been looking for them for about two years now. I loved those things. Chex Mix doesn't even come close.

Oh my gosh, I hadn't thought about Doo Dads in ages! They were a Friday night TV watching snack with my sisters, back in the days when the Mary Tyler Moore show and Bob Newhart were on! THey were also my father's favorite "car" snack. I would love to find some.

I did a little search and found this posted in a message board:

Ahhhh, Doo Dads. Originally, I was only able to eat them when vacationing on the East Coast (they were never available in CA, it seemed). But I have not seen them in stores for years, quite depressing.

I sent an E-mail to Nabisco, for whatever it's worth, maybe I'll get a decent reply about the fate of the Doo Dads.

Honestly, they only thing that has ever come close is Nabisco's semi-new 'Mixers'. Still poor in comparison.

I told them Doo Dads has quite a cult following :P

DooDads.... man oh man, right now I'd pay 20.00 for a box. Chex mix that they came out with, I cant stand. It works for now. But man, I love eathing doodads with my mom esp. around christmas time. I thing they took a loss of money they could of made from taking it off the shelf.. unless someone knows where to find ANY!!!!!

THERE IS A SIMILIAR MIX THAT NABISCO MAKES THAT IS CALLED MIXERS. THE ONLY THING THAT IS MISSING IS THE PEANUTS, EVERYTHING ELSE IS THE SAME, MR SALTY. CHEESE NIPS ALL THAT!! I TOO HAVE BEEN WISHING FOR DOO-DADS. THIS IS AS CLOSE TO THEM AS I CAN GET.

They were called Cheese "TID-BITS" and a larger version of the tid bit used to be sold in a box by itself (made by Nabisco - I think) -- It's a shame that they quit making these things

We used to refer to them as spapoop cause thats what the box read when you held it upside down

I used to love Doo Dads too....me and my mom used to share them. I hate that they aren't available anymore, and I really can't understand why not. Anyway, I have found the Rosemary & Olive Oil Triscuits have a very similar flavor to the Doo Dads. Not exactly the same, but as close as we can get without the real thing. Give them a try!

Sucks that Nabisco discontinued them, but there is another snack mix out by nabisco called Mixers, it reminds me of Doo Dads snack mix, but without the peanuts, but I think it has everthing else in it. Pretzel sticks, Oblong cheese sticks, Little chex mix looking things, and little ritz crackers. It reminds me of Doodads. Give them a try!! Hope it helps you out!!

Doo Dads were made by Nabisco.

What!!!??? Where??? I live in Houston and would KILL a bus-load of kittens and orphans for a package of Doo Dads!!!! I'd murder the last unicorn for a mere lick of one of those corn Chex from Doo Dads! Doo Dads were the best snack ever made.

Take up arms, people! Take back the Doo Dads! I propose an invasion of Canada. Liberate the Doo Dads! Don't worry, the Liberals will convince everyone it is "all about the oil" while we are stuffing our faces with the salty goodness of the real deal.

Forget Chex's watered-down substitute.

tid bits was the oblong cheese cracker in doo dads i have been trying to find both of them

The key to homemade Chex (or Crispix) mix is to add hot sauce & cayenne pepper. Then make sure you have plenty of cold beer!

Chex does make one, it's called Simply Chex, and they come in the cheese flavor & I've only seen them in vending machines.

When I make it at home, I add more spices and don't mess around with the pretzels or peanuts or anything, just the Chex.

Doo Dads were good. I hadn't thought about them in years.

Growing up my Uncle renamed all of us kid's backwards: Idoj(pronounced "I dodge"), Ekim, Adnerb, Knarf, everybody but my Dad, "Bob". But back to "Doo Dads", I recently over the course of a couple of weeks tried to find a taste for Chex mix in the absence of "Doo Dads", they just didn't show me the love.

Tid Bits is correct and they were great. Doo Dads are amazing. I though they were made by Chex. I could almost be positive that they were. I had just asked my family if they remembered them and they did so I came to google them and see what happened to them and got this website. Too bad they aren't around that we know of anyway.

Doo Dads...TIDBITS...TWIGS...Ate 'em all. Doo Dads were the favorite summertime snacks for my friends and me, as we listened to records and talked about boys, alternating between a sip of COKE or 7 Up, and Doo Dads. When we grew up, and would get together when we were home from college, my dad always managed to have a box or two on his shelves. Thanks, Dad! The things memories are made of. TIDBITS...my mother-in-law made a delicious recipe with crushed TIDBITS, chicken and sour cream. Each piece of chicken was dipped in sour cream, then rolled in the crumbs of TIDBITs. Today, I use Pepperidge Farm Cheddar GOLDFISH. Close enough to TIDBITS, but still...For awhile, I tried TWIGS as a substitute, trying to get the same flavor. They just didn't cut it.
This weekend, 2 childhood friends are driving several hours to meet at my home for a 'trip down memory lane.' Doo Dads would be the perfect snack to offer, but NABISCO fixed that, right? They really dropped the ball with that decision!
