Well I called Nancy and we chatted a while. She told me all about her ranch and her ranching philosophy. Sounded too good to be true. I was hoping she might be selling her dogs somewhere near me since I am about 200 miles away. Alas, no such luck. Then out of the blue she offered to send me a pack to see what I thought. I was nervous about mailing, but she pointed out they are fully cooked so there was no issue in shipping.
They got here yesterday morning and I will tell you, man they are good. They do look a bit odd, kinda like thick jerky sticks, and boy can you smell the smoking they take. I had my wife grill one up for me for lunch (eventually it was two of them, the rest sadly, for me, eaten by my wife and daughters). Put it on a fresh sourdough bun and took a bite. I should point out these are 100% beef and caseless.
A quick aside: In the last few months my stomach has become increasingly finicky about what it wants to accept. Letting me know with light nausea if I made a bad choice. A lot of my favorite foods, alas do not measure up to my stomach's demands. So I have become increasingly cautious about what I eat. After the first one of these dogs, I was ready for the worst, and guess what, no probs!
Well my measure of a good dog is if it needs condiments. It definately passed this test. Very nicely spiced, a little light perhaps on some spices, but the smoking takes care of that. It is much denser than most dogs on the market. A real mouthful. This is not a New York, Chicago, California or southern dog. This is a unique taste for the dog world. Almost a true sausage, but still definately a dog. If you know anyone in the Kansas City KANSAS area have them pick you up a few packs, you'll definately be glad you did. I have to take my daughter up to KC for her flight back to school. Guess what I plan on stocking up on?
