Has anyone ever had food from the mail order catalog "Home Bistro"?
It all looks great, but the big question is how does it tast? I was thinking of sending a few meals to a friend
in another state.

Does anyone have any favorite mail order companys for food or food related items. Christmas is coming.

I find most mailorder food to be overpriced and not as good as it looks in the pictures. Exceptions are fruitcakes from Delux and candy from Savanah Candy Kitchen. Dean and Deluca is ok too. For me half the fun is to drive half a day to get to some special shop that I heard about. I never count the $40 in gas as part of the food cost, but I hate to pay shipping.

These guys make the best Italian salad dressing I've ever had. We keep this on hand all the time, and my wife and I both LOVE it.

You'll love it Sundance. I order the 750 ml bottles because it's cheaper. I don't keep it in the fridge as suggested, because the olive oil hardens. It's primarily olive oil and balsamic vinegar, so it doesn't spoil before I use it all up.

These items have excellent prices as compared to what you could find in your local eateries. However, when you tack on the outrageous shipping/handling charges (as with most online food purveyors), the cost is simply not worthwhile.

Delux is made by Colin St Bakery. Most fruit cake is so bad ast to be the butt of jokes, but theirs is good. I don't find that it keeps as well as they say though. We usually buy the small one and then only once a year.

Do many of you agree with angeltx and me that the Colin St product is an exception to the fruitcake jokes?

I do like the Collin St. fruitcake alot. My boss used to send us one every year before he passed away. My Mom makes homemade unbaked fruitcake every year that is the best-it is real moist. But, I am one of those odd people that really like fruitcake

We get Colin St. fruit cake every year from a friend, it's very good even when it's been in the freezer a while. I have had good luck with Amana Meat Shop in Amana Iowa. I send several of their items to an ederly friend several times a year.
