The Beachball's is now "Breadsticks Cafe"..
I used to occasionally eat at the very first incarnation, which was called the Celebrity Deli, in Resorts Casino's early years..
Resorts opened in 1978, the first A.C. Casino, for those that did'nt know.

I agree about those A.C. buffets! Most of the time, they leave a lot to be desired! Harrahs is about the best one now, IMO, although I still don't find their prime rib "SUCCULENT", just decent..
(same as how I feel about the prime rib on the Borgata buffet; many people like the Borgata buffet the best, though)

The Tropicana and the Hilton buffets look like cafeteria food to me..
(however, the stuff I saw at Piccadilly Cafeteria in Daytona Beach puts those buffets to shame..)

I talked to my mom, and LOL, where was she ? Thanksgiving. AC! That old "Met's girl was going strong, even at 90 yrs. !

However, the next morning, yesterday, I drove over to the Tilton Market to buy some of their good homemade turkey gravy!
TILTON MARKET, Northfield, NJ (family owned; only location)

I'd only been there once before, a few months ago.
They close 6 pm or 7 pm, depending, so they were shut already on my other few attempts. It's only about 2 miles from my condo.

This place deserves a "shout out" !!!

I grew up in Margate and Northfield and have great memories of my Mom bringing home some delicious sides from the Tilton Market.  I even remember the smaller store that was there before they remodeled.  They are a great family who really care about their products.

AGREED! Welcome , Capt. Murdock..
I'm sure Margate and Northfield were great places to grow up..
with the beach right there, etc..
Plus, AC had so many more good "mom and pop" restaurants "BC" (before casinos) ....

I grew up in north Jersey, and you were lucky to have the beach right there!  We had to  drive an hour to get to the closest beach, Sandy Hook
I still love making pit stops at places like Seaside Heights, etc..

glad you found my trip report, and glad I could bring back some memories for you.
It's neat to have someone retrieve my report from the archives...
as it often takes 2 or 3 hours to do these reports, and the replies usually die off in a few days.....(it's a neat "rush" when I first get my replies, though!)

I agree! What was that all about?? The previous post was all of one month old. Any additional comments even if they are like three years old are always welcome. I myself was just checking out a thread that began three years ago about places to eat in Pittsburgh because I am planning a trip there in 2009.  Welcome to Roadfood, Capt!

Ellen- I was really lucky to have been so close to the beach but it took moving to PA for me to truly appreciate how lucky I really was.  Now I only get down to South Jersey a few times a year and miss being able to get home from work and walking down to the beach to swim for an hour.

And your comments about AC are spot on.  My grandfather used to own a pool hall and my grandmother would serve Italian dishes out of the small kitchen.  Then once the casino's moved in all of those special little establishments sort of withered away.  Oh well at least there is still Angelos!

UPDATE : The New York Diner is no more !!!  It made it thru last winter (somehow!), but did NOT make it thru THIS one !  Just drove by there today, March 17th, 2010, 6:30 pm

It is NOW a PING PING Chinese Restaurant...
As you can see from the pic, there is already more activity outside the place, than I've ever seen at that dismal New York Diner

I would've made a bet with someone that the DELI was'nt going to be in business much longer!  Justice was served!
