non fast-food, fast food?? Thu, 08/28/08 5:04 PM (permalink)
What Quick Service Restaurants (i.e. fast food restaurants) are there that specialize in serving things other than fast food.

Particularly any one that centers most of or all of their menu around such items.

I can't think of a one.
I consider things like Taco Bell a form of fast food, so that would be out; as are bratwursts, deli sandwiches, etc
Doesn't have to be necessarily "health food" but just non-"fast food".

In CA there is a chain of quick service Greek restaurants, Daphne's Greek Cafe, that are very good.

Looking at the website just now has made me hungry. I wish there was one around there.

I guess I don't understand the question. By definition, a fast food restaurant has to serve fast food. If they're not serving you food fast, then they're not a fast food restaurant.

Farmer Boys in So Cal and Culver's in the MidWest both offer drive-thru burgers and quick service (but cooked to order) Burgers at their counter. Both chains have 'lunches and dinners' built around their sandwich menu...fried Chicken and Fish at Culvers and a Lot of Mexican stuff and BIG Breakfasts at Farmer Boys. Both chains, you order at the counter but they bring your food to you at your table.
I think that qualifies as both FF and Sit-Down in the same place.

I'd put Boston Market in that category.

In Baltimore we have this great place called Poulet that is a nicer version of Boston Market. Oddly, Poulet has two locations: Baltimore Suburbs and Downtown Boston.

Agreed!! I LOVE DAPHNE'S 1/2 garlic lemon greek chicken, and their dipping sauces, like the fire feta sauce.

I also put in a vote for KOO KOO ROO (rotisserie chicken and hand carved turkey) (a real turkey with legs and wings, and skin !)

Both these chains tend to be located in nice strip malls, like in Marina Del Rey... and both places have good reputations for friendly employees.... always get a good feeling in both those places...

Panda Express Stands might qualify under the definition we seem to be working with here.

I think Noodles & Co. applies to what you are saying. Choice of pasta, sauce, protein, and salad. All done quickly and for the two or three times I have been there was very good. You can get Asian, Italian, or American choices.
