Then there's the variation from the Apocrypha:

There once was a man from Nantucket,
Kept all of his clams in a bucket.
His daughter named Nan
Ran off with a man.
And as for the bucket,
Natucket.

sorry Grampy, that was right over my head

I would have ended with Nan took it, but that ruins the rhyme, unless you are from Alberta.

That still wouldn't work, because then it would say, Nan took it, eh?

You didn't have to knock me over the head with a bucket, Grampy. I understood Nantucket!

But I seem to recall that there was a different ending than yours. Lemme think. Hmmmmm. It'll come to me eventually.

After seeing today's photo of hanger steak from FIGs in SC, I may be changing my mind. How was that cooked, Michael? Hanger steak is one of my favorite cuts. I grill it or -- yes -- grind it for cheeseburgers.

olphart, good thing I just happened to have had that exact passage of the New Testament open as it goes:

They were too gritty and from less desirable mud
Surely not potable for any blueblood
They must've come from Pawtucket

Someone just called me about Massachusett's vacant poet laureate post. Was this a joke, clothier?...EliseT?...redtressed?...Al?...Grampy?...olphart?

A stirfry with chicken and lots of different veggies over rice. Covers most of the major food groups and tastes great.

Bacon and sausage pie, well done, from Pepe's Apizza is my first choice. A close second would be Fried Dumplings and Moo Sho Pork from a long gone "Sing Woo" restaurant on Second ave and St. Marks Place in NYC.

Revelations reveals to us:

"The Earth was covered by a great scourge. An insidious plethora of pre-fabricated and poorly prepared nourishment and sustenance. The Lord was dismayed at this development and it's acceptance by the masses.

It came to pass, that out of the chilly northeast, a couple who were known as Jane and Michael Stern, were themselves saddened by this plague upon the land. As they set out upon the road in search of more worthy preparations of the Lord's bounties, the Lord spoke to them from the starry heavens. "Jane, Michael, you of great wisdom and good taste shall become my prophets and messengers upon the Earth. You will spread my message throughout the land that good and tasty food is still availiable and that such can often be found in the humblest of places. You will gather a forum of disciples from all corners of the land, that will gather together and compare experiences and study and discover where such manna from the heavens can be found. You will write tomes of your discoveries and they will be consumed by the peoples of the Earth, who revile the wickedness of tastlessness and unduly expensive presentations of their daily bread. They will rise up and smite the infidels, as they carry your banner. Go forth and multiply!" Then the Lord disappeared. The newly appointed prophets Jane and Michael looked at one another in astonishment and fervor. "Let's get to it, kiddo!" they both cried and set out upon their long journey. The Lord looked down from his lofty throne and smiled as he saw it was good"

or sumptin like that

(Thank you God for allowing me poetic license and for yourself having a sense of humor. You obviously do, as you allowed i95,Grampy and Clothier as three of the disciples)

One food, only one food, not a combination of ingredients (foods) to make pizza, cheeseburgers, tacos, etc.

The Avocado. Protein, fat, fiber, vitamin C and the list goes on. Of course, you'd get darn sick and tired of them eventually, but they'd keep you alive and healthy.

Re:one and ONLY one food??? 2012/01/18 01:52:52 (permalink)
I think the concept of only ONE ingredient is flawed, inpractical, and not in line with the original idea...

jerseygirl127      ok-- we've asked this question around the dinner table several times ( getting the same answers from everyone each time) thought i'd see what YOU all think.. ok here goes....
"if you were stranded somewhere and could have one and only one food to keep you going, what would it be?"

** mine is pizza-- could eat that 24/7 if i had to!**

This (above quote) is the ORIGINAL post...and MULTIPLE elemants (ingredients) ARE used in her favorite, in this case pizza...

Hence, pizza, taco, stew. etc ARE valid answers IMHO, taking our que from the original post...

If one tried to construe this to mean only 1 ingrediant, it would be very narrow in definition, and probably pretty bland as well...(here's your bowl of wheat grains)...

It could be interesting...

I have a friend in Maine, a Yak rancher, who is too remote to have tacos...I might need to send him a care package, just add meat...

I do remember surviving on Tacos one summer in college for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner....
I would however have to chose Pork Chops:  center cut, 3/4" thick with a good layer of fat surrounding it dredged in flour and pan fried in a cast iron skillet with the rice and gravy
to go with it.
