one of the best sandwiches I saw...

and tried to recreate was in the movie "Spanglish". There's a scene where what's-his-face, the main character, is making what appears to be a BLT with a fried over easy egg. It looks SOOO good!! I've tried making it a couple of times but it just never looks the same! I used sliced sourdough, provolone, mayo, bacon and fried an egg. I buttered and toasted the bread on the stove...it was still pretty good but somehow in the movie it was just so mouthwatering. mmmmm

I think on the DVD there is a special feature on the sandwich. If memory serves it was conceived by a big deal chef out west. I tmight have been the guy from the French Laundry - Keller I think. Anyways, rent it might be worht renting to have one because I agree, it did look really good.

Quick Google search and I found this which talks about the process of coming up with the idea and gives a recipe.

Who really cares about nutritional facts? I mean what is the point? Eat good. You never know you may get hit by a carrot truck tomarrow.

Nothing worse then living a nice healthy safe life to end up were we all will go at a young age. Heck, life life to the fullest. Eat every meal like it is your last and you may live to be 100. You can not prevent the enevitable.

as my dad always says - "if you eat a BLT with a fried egg on top every day for 100 years, you will live a long time."

There is a motto to live by....after all eggs have been good, bad and now good again in the last 20 years.

Instead of thinking of it as a BLT with an egg, its sounds more like a bacon and egg sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo.

I had a high school teacher who used to say, "One hundred percent of people who eat peas will eventually die."

After salivating reading this thread today, for dinner I made something close based on what I had on hand. Toasted asiago cheese bread, hickory smoked pepper bacon, fried egg, smoked cheddar, romaine, tomato and mayo. I don't know how it stacks up against the French Laundry or 'Wichcraft versions but it was a very tasty sandwich.

And remember what philosopher / song writer Warren Zevon told David Letterman when he was asked: "What do you suppose you know about life and death that I don't know because you have an incurable disease?"

And Warren said: "I guess I know that in life you need to enjoy every sandwich."

A great sandwich starts with a great bread...experiment and match the bread to the sandwich...wonder bread may be fine for a peanut buuter and jelly....but for a sub., give me the BEST crusty Italian bread I can find. A crisp Kaiser roll for a nice size burger...etc.
