Hi does anyone have a recipe for pepper steak with a brown gravy? Kind of like the one Stouffer's restaurant used to serve in the 60's and 70's. Also I am not sure what type or cut of beef I need to use. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Ingredients: 1 1/2 pound round steak -- 1/2-inch thick 1/4 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper 1 medium chopped onion 1 small garlic clove -- minced 2 large green bell peppers -- or red bell peppers, cut in 1/2-inch strips 16 ounces whole tomatoes 1 tablespoon beef bouillon granules 1 tablespoon soy sauce 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 3 cups cooked rice Directions: Cut steak into strips. Combine flour, salt and pepper; toss with steak strip to coat thoroughly. Add to slow cooker with onion, garlic and half of pepper strips; stir. Combine tomatoes with beef granules, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Pour into slow cooker, moistening meat well. Cover and cook low for 8 to 10 hours. One hour before serving, turn to high setting and stir in the remaining green pepper strips. If thickened gravy is desired, make a smooth paste of 3 tablespoons flour and 3 tablespoons water; stir into slow cooker. Cover and cook until thickened. Serve gravy with Pepper Steak over hot fluffy rice. This is my crock pot recipe-maybe not what you are looking for but it is great!

Thanks for the recipe, Ann. My mom used to make this, and I made it a lot when my kids were younger, but I haven't made it for years!!! I think I'll try it soon, but over egg noodles!!

Thank you, Ann and blue heaven. When I went to the farmers' market near closing time last Saturday, they had baskets of mixed red and green peppers for $1 and I remembered this thread and bought one and made pepper steak. I hadn't made it for years and we enjoyed it.
