popcorn machine supplies Sun, 01/30/11 10:06 PM (permalink)
I just picked up a Star popcorn machine.
I'm aiming to use it in my flea market booth.
Where do I find supplies like those popcorn bags and a scoop?
I'm in Oregon.
Thanks in advance.

I worked one of those machines for a few years.  We used block oil and bought 50 pound sacks of corn.

Of course my mind fails me at this moment so here are

thanks marlene. I'm no food professional, but another guy is doing it and I see more bags of popcorn going out the door than my used cookbooks.
This is my indoor "antique" sale, not the outdoor variety.
I figured they wouldn't have such things at cash and carry.

Check out the licensing requirements.  Department of Health might have something to say.

One of my grill competitors had to get rid of his hot sauces because in his city a food license was required.

Good luck!  The aroma of pop corn popping is almost as good as bacon frying.  Enticing!

If you have a Sams Club they sell the popcorn, oil, etc. You may want to check out Gold Medal Products, they can ship every thing you need. You may also check to see if there is a concession supply locally.

Thanks, Jody. I know how to eat popcorn; how to make it on this level not so much.
            Marlene, what is Block Oil?

Instead of fussing with liquid oil, what I used when I also made popcorn was measured out in small blocks like sticks of butter.    It was supplied by the same people who sold the popcorn, whoever they were.

A measuring cup of popcorn and one stick of whatever that stuff was made from and I was good to go.

The hardest part for me was opening those burlap sacks of popcorn.

Exactly. The cooking oil was wrapped up in individual sticks like butter.  I think it was some sort of coconut oil with a butter-like flavor.

We also used a finer grained salt.
