posting pics on forum

I am not able to post any pics to the forum.  I've tried on 2 different pc's.  Is there some trick to this?  I'm using pics in the jpg. format from my picture folder.  I've joined as an insider (thinking maybe only members could post) still getting error messages.  Any ideas?

Just tried to post using pics from Twitpic.com by copying the image location.  The pics showed fine in the message creation form, but disappeared when I previewed the post. Is twitpic compatible?

I've given up trying.  There's really no reason it should be so tough to do.

I was having trouble, too. There must be something broken. My symptom is the same as Holly's; shows in the preview, but not in the post.

With all due respect, this is the only site on the web that I can't post a simple picture.

Would be nice and simple if we could just add as attachments from our existing folders.

Seems to be working ...OK .....   Insert image using the img tag ..... <[img]....... [/img]> (without the <>)  or use the "insert image" button.  But you must give the complete URL;  ie ...... http://.......   ... Make sure you can view your picture in a web page by its self; ie, right click & view image.    Then you can right click & copy location or copy the URL bar.   .... Some severs/browser will short'n the url. These will not work ....

Next, most pics as uploaded from the camera are too big.    Resize the pic to about 4x6 inch and at 150 dpi (anything between 80 to200 dpi is OK)   Then the pic file size should be about 80kb to 400kb.   File sizes 600kb and larger (Mb) are too big for the forum page to see without scrolling.   ... I think these forums do have an auto-script that will limit posted picture size to 800 pixs wide. but large picture files are slow loading for many forum users.

It is hard to help when I can't reproduce the problem. All I am doing is cutting link to picture and pasting in space that pops up when I click on "insert/edit image" on toolbar. If you are using a picture hosting site, try a few different options for proper URL. I know a "direct link" on some sites doesn't work, while an "embed link" works for others. It varies greatly so I can't tell you which will work for you.

After reading some of the comments it appears some folks are trying to link to pictures hosted on their own computers. The picture has to be somewhere on the web and a link to that place is then placed in your post.

For those using various picture hosting sites, there are now SOOOO many of these and there does not appear to be a universal standard for the type of link they throw back to you. When I try twitpic it provides me with a long link that includes a bunch of things.

Let me try this...here I right clicked on photo while viewing in twitpic and captured URL that way...did it work?

I'll see if anything has changed.

1.) Copy URL of any photo anywhere on the Internet

2.) Click on little icon for inserting photos

3.) Paste URL in entry box

    Voila!

Looks like that may work for twitpic, using the link they give for "posting in your web page" gives this...

    [image]<a href=" alt="" /><img src="http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2yrpwp.jpg[/image]" _mce_src="http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/<a href="http:/twitpic.com/2yrpwp" title="test on Twitpic"><img src="http:/twitpic.com/show/thumb/2yrpwp.jpg" width="150" height="150" alt="test on Twitpic"></a>" />

I was trying to post a picture of an Olympus EP-1 camera, I was taking it off a rewview website. I'll give it another shot...

It's working now. But something was messed up the other day. I right click, copy image location, paste. I've been doing it for years.

If you're simply copying it from a website, that doesn't always work either. If the site you're taking the picture from doesn't allow hotlinking, it won't show up if you try post it here or wherever. You should still save the picture to a photobucket account or some similar photo hosting website and link to that.
