potatoes 2

SINCE this is a duplicate of the other thread of the same title It should be deleted, but it has a number of posts, so we will leave it, but keep it in the right forum. AL

So what is your preference. Hash browns with an option for kickass gravy and onions or a mountain of fried diced potatoes, green peppers, and onions seasoned just right...oh ya and some of them real crispy as they were at the bottom of the pile.

I'm with V960. Gimme a big order of grits if it's with breakfast. Pollenta with dinner!

If it's breakfast most folks are going to be happier with the familiar 9 out of 10 times. A good hash browns recipe will go a long way. O'Briens don't have quite the same audience. You could offer corned beef hash as an alternative, tho. Makes a great specialty breakfast dish and you can heap it high and make a lot of variations on it.

I measure a breakfast by the quality of the hash browns, although what I prefer is really home fries, exactly as you have described nyczoo.

Like 'em a lot. Right below bread, but above rice, and perhaps tied with pasta.

Like all kinds, but let us not forget a really good potato salad. Love that with a pastrami sandwich, or maybe a couple dogs.

    Hello All,
If I have hash browns, I like them with just salt and pepper. As a side dish
to the hash browns, I like bacon or sausage, toast, orange juice.

A rather broad subject (potatoes) reduced to hashbrowns or homefries.. I seem to recall a like thread not to long ago but am to lazy to go search it out. Personally I like my homemade HOMEfries with onions and bell peppersm browned then stired and the bottum well browned again, more often served fresh for supper with leftovers whenever. When eating breakfast out I generally order hashbrowns AND grits and if at Waffle House get the hashbrowns all the way...

I like my potatoes (fresh) with onions, red bell peppers, Italian sausage (broken up, with out the casing) and 2 eggs over easy on top.

Michigan is more of a hash brown state, where Ontario, Canada still use home fries.

When I go to Toronto, I always stop at Huskies. They have great home fries with onions and peppers.

I'm not sure what you would call my latest creation but it was good. Needing to use up some peppers, onions and potatoes I started by cooking peppers and onions till soft, then since my daughter had "borrowed" my cast iron skillet, browned off a single layer of sliced potato in a buttered nonstick pan, transferring each finished batch to a casserole dish, a package of spicey breakfast sausage was browned and added along with a can of cheese soup and half a bag of chedder crumbles. Baked @350 for 45 minutes then french fried onions scattered over the top and baked another 10 minutes.....

Depends on what I'm in the mood for.. something to sop up nice yolks or something that can stand on their own. And there's nothing like a good latke! I prefer any type of shredded or diced hash browns to mashed potatoes. I will request them on the side of dinner or lunch as opposed to mashed which I can take or leave.
