It depends, you really can't consider the cooking independently of the dog. At home I boil Hummel's beef and put them on a Martin's Potato long roll (not toasted) with Pace medium salsa. Mmmmmm! When I have dogs out I have found that a boiled dog is less likely to be appealing - they have to use really good dogs if they boil them. In general if the place serves good dogs it is because they have worked out what works for the dogs they serve - which generally works for me too.

At home, for the most part, I pour some beer in the pot (cooking), and toss in some Kogels Natural Casing all beef dogs... Just cant get enough of them this way... Now time permitting, I like tossing them on the cool side of the grill with plenty of hickory smoke rolling around. Finish them off on the hot side..

My preference is grilled or broiled, or raw at times. Least favorite is boiled.

I wish you folks who persist in labeling those little Sausages as "DOGS" would use the prefix "HOT" with the title. Whenever I bring up a thread -on screen- my two Scotties growl and crawl under the desk. They think you are referring to them and their K-9 companions.

I like them cooked on the grill, but if it's too cold for grilling outside, I like them fried. Cut a long slit down the middle and "butterfly" them, then fry them in a little bit of oil, until they are almost crispy.

I fried my Ball Parks today. I used a small amount of oil and browned them and served them what I call chicago style. They were nice and brown and just beginning to break open. I will enjoy them while watching the Atlanta NASCAR race. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I take the frozen dawg and put in a 1/4 cup of water in a fry pan with a lid, steam till thawed then let them brown off. Of course boiled or grilled is always high on the list, my oh likes her blackened on the grill. As far as from a cart?.... leaving the pool supply the other day I spyed a cart on the opposite corner and decided on a quick nosh, expecting a quick stop and a dirtywater I was a little put back when the vender pulled out a raw dog and put it on a small gas grill. My contemplated 2 minute stop stretched out to 7-8 minutes. The vendor said he had heard the same surprise from many customers. Although it wasn't what I had, had the sudden craving for the dog was tasty with mustard, onion and relish although 3.75 for a dog and soda seemed a bit high... I don't think I'll stop there again.

Let me throw another method in...Microwaved. @ 12:30 in the morning watching Conan with a soda. Great way to finish a day. Best way to cook a dog... 1. Grilled on my cast iron skillet 2. On my gas grill (I don't have a charcoal webber) 3. Microwaved 4. boiled (will not eat it this way at home. I however will eat dogs prepared this way from a cart)

grilled, absolutely! even a crappy dog tastes better grilled. Most carts in DC boil their dogs. I guess it's just easier that way. Less room needed to cook them, less mess. But I like 'em grilled (flat) with some black forming on the dog, or charcoal grill.

However, like hjbyun says, nuked "hot" dogs watching Conan or even a later show is a great thing!--I am quite guilty of that myself.....

I like all methods, but you can't beat steamed or boiled. I boiled hot dogs last night for supper and severed them with red slaw. Red slaw is big here in the south. Grate a small head of cabbage, grate into this 1/2 small onion, a capful of vinegar, salt&pepper and ketsup to your liking.

Red slaw?? Never heard of it but that sounds great. I've never had a slaw I didn't like but with my diabetes, some are too sweet. That sounds good and it may go next to my Asian slaw as next on my to make list.

Hello All, I like to get out my pizza pan, place the hot dogs on it and throw it in the oven at about 250 degrees. I check them from time to time, turning them over a time or two until they toughen up, but doesn't get burnt. Take Care, Fieldthistle

I know this sounds disgusting, but I like to split them and then fry them with some chopped onion, then I add a squirt or two of Heinz ketchup after the hot dog has gotten pretty close to burned. I just heat it unitl the ketchup has warmed up and put the entire mess in a bun. I do the same thing with canned corned beef except I substitute Wonder bread for the bun.

When I cook dogs at the house, I usually buy Dietz & Watson' New York Deli hot dogs. I then cook the dogs over hickory chips on my Jenn Aire gas grill. I have a setup where I can smoke on the gas grill and control both the smoke, heat, and flare up problems. They come off with a little snap to them and are to die for. Dennis in Cary
