question for Dorito's fans

I now see they have "Blazin' Buffalo & Ranch" flavored chips.

Why won't Frito/Lay listen to the Dorito fans on this site and bring back the original, simple, TACO flavor of the '70s? They attemped a Taco Bell flavor in the '90s which was nothing like the old taco flavor. Anyone else craving that old Doritos taco flavor, the one with the sombrero on the bag?

I still see "Taco" flavored Doritos, but they are nothing like the original, make your fingers orange, still taste them in the morning, version!!

There are other forums about them, but I am not looking them up right now!! Do a search.

I agree I loved the 70's taco flavor. I had to explain to my children that the Nacho flavor Doritos was not the OG version. When I was a youngter in the 60's & 70's we ate the plain / corn flavor and the taco flavor. The nacho flavor came out in the late 70's. Followed by cool ranch and the other flavors. The corn / plain flavors came back at least in our area within the past few years.

I did try a taco flavor that was being tested in the area, it just didn't have the same spicy flavor I that I recalled.

The single best corn chips ever made were the taco flavored Doritos of the 1970s. It's amazing how many threads on this topic have been authored, which shows you the widespread appeal of these chips. I wonder if Doritos somewhere along the line lost the recipe on how to make them. If this many people on roadfood.com remember them, imagine how many others would love to have them reinstated.

While they are at it I wouldn't mind them bringing back the sour cream and onion flavor they used to make. I loved those as a kid.

Have you seen Doritos latest flavor? I don't have the bag in front of me but it's some weird number like X-13D or something like that. You get to try to name it and if they pick your name you get free Doritos for a year. They are definitely different tasting.

Sour Cream and Onion Doritos ruled! And the original Taco flavored were my second favorite flavor! Frito Lay needs to bring them back! But I've heard that they don't even acknowledge that they existed! Why is it that these companies always discontinue the best products!!!??? I've never been able to forgive Frito Lay for this! Do they even read these forums? I doubt it.

Stephiegirl, Doritos has been coming out with several flavors lately in test markets. Some months ago, there was a White Nacho flavor paired with a sort of smoked barbecue flavor (I forget the name). You got to vote for the best flavor.

There is a Doritos' Ranchero flavor around that I found near the western Kentucky/Tennessee border last summer (2006) that is very good. However, it hasn't been distributed to northern western Kentucky area since I first discovered it last summer. I went down that way again in March 2007 and they were still selling it. So it beats me why it hasn't made its way up here yet.

I tried this X-13D flavor (or whatever they call it) about a week ago. A friend of mine in Los Angeles told me about it, and two days later I found a gas station selling it in Loogootee, Indiana. It tastes like a hamburger with pickle and mustard. I called it Doctor Doritos' Secret Formula.

They still have Taco chips. I live in NJ and the last time I saw them was back in the mid 70's. I happened to be on the Doritos website one day a year or so ago and noticed they still have them! I thought they discontinued them. I called Doritos and the woman said they only have them in certain areas in the US and the East Coast is not one of them! I went to their website and starting searching for them by zip code and found places in Indiana, Kansas and Michigan still have them. So if you go to Doritos and search by zip code you may find them near you or near someone you know and they can get them for you!

It's been like 30 years since I last had them, but I still crave them like crazy!!! I have contacted Doritos and asked them to consider bringing them back into this area, but noting so far!!!

Does anyone remember a flavor of Doritos back in the 80s called "Jumpin Jack Flash"? I think they had some sort of Jack Cheese flavor...they were soo good..but whenever I ask people they look at me like I'm nuts! They may have had something to do with an 80s tv show or movie...perhaps 21 jump street?

In western Kentucky they currently have the Taco flavored Doritos. When I asked a convenience store manager why some flavors appear at that location some weeks and then they suddenly disappear--often for weeks or months at a time--I was told the store didn't have anything to do with what they sold. "We just stock whatever the Frito-Lay deliveryman brings. We don't have any choice in the matter." The Taco-flavored Doritos are in this store now. But next week? Who knows.

I had a bag of taco Doritos last night, it was actually a combo pack with another flavor, and I have to say, it's just not the same recipe I remember from those original tacos Doritos from the 1970s. They were good, but not great.

I loved the taco flavor and miss it! Have You tried the Habinero flavor? It's good dipped in sour cream.
