restaurant equipment auctions Thu, 11/1/07 7:57 PM (permalink)
Anyone know how to find out about restaurant equipment auctions? Everyone talks about all the used equipment out there from failed restaurants but is there a source to go to find out about auctions to buy the stuff? And yes I know about Craiglist and ebay.

If a big city paper covers your area (hell, any paper in your area) check for an auction section in the Sunday edition.

Like wise any local classified papers (Pennysaver, Tradin'Post...World, Nickle something or other etc.) will have an auction section.

Check all the auctioneer ads and see which ones have web sites.

Most of them will e-mail you what's coming up.

I'm beginning to see a little trend starting in "online" and "online only" auctions and there seems to be a growing number of specialty auctioneers pertaining to food service equipment, at least in my area.

There really are a lot of great deals to be had but make sure you check out what your bidding on in person and remember to add in the buyers premium you'll probably have to pay.

Also make sure you read all of the buyer information for any caveats like inspection times and pick-up time requirements and such.

I seen a nice 6x8 walk-in with condenser and compresser go the other day on an online auction for under $300...SWEET!
(this one had the caveat that you needed a licensed refrigeration dude (or dudette) to recover the gas properly before removal)

You might also check out scratch-and-dent equipment. They are discounted and though the discount is probably not what you'll find with used equipment, at least you know you're getting a new piece of equipment that probably uses less energy and may require less upkeep than old equipment. Also, I've been working with a lot of energy efficiency info lately and most of the new energy-efficient equipment pays itself off (and then some) in energy savings within a couple of years (maybe less if you're lucky enough to be in a state with a good rebate program). They actually save money while saving the planet.

      Good luck to you, Hotdogg!

I have researched many of the restaurant sites. This one offers a great deal of used equipment at good prices. They also have offerings on E Bay.I guess buying used, you have no guarantees but the prices can be unbelievable.Central restaurant products will send you a catalog of their wholesale equipment as will Big Tray.

        Hope this was helpful!

Seems every town has an auction house (most online) that offer inventory... Seen tons and tons of stuff. Locally it's www.1800lastbid.com (They go way beyond the local area here also)..

We used to setup & vend for an onsite auctioneer. He often had restaurant equipment PLUS he knew folks who were selling stuff. Call all your local auctioneers. They could refer you to someone who handles restaurant equipment if they don't. Also look at the restaurant equipment repair places. They often have used equipment for sale.
