Their hot chocolate is also very good. People watching there is very good is you got a sidewalk view.

I genuinely love that place. Their menu ain't complicated but at the right time, it is wonderful. I sincerely love and enjoy being there very early in the morning. I suppose late at night is better for people watching but I am not a real good late person.

Paul E. Do it after you have eaten so the almost black oil doesn't put you off.

RE: Lousiana's BEST breakfast (V960)

quote:

no we call in a big hunk of beef slow cooked with vegatbles

the wars over get over it!

Forget H**l!! You won't regret it. Some fine eats abound.

Broken Egg Cafe on the Northshore in Mandeville
La Madeleine French Bakery, either the one in Harahan or Mandeville
Abita Springs Cafe-Abita Springs
Bella Matina-Covington
Annadele’s Plantation-Covington
Longbranch-Abita Springs
Country Kitchen-Mandeville
Vianne's Tea Salon and Cafe-Mandeville
Cafe 59-Mandeville
Louie and the Red-Head Lady-Mandeville
Courtyard Cafe-Covington
Dot's Diner-Boutte

All of these are on the Northshore or River Parishes. More in Mandeville obviously but I live there so I eat more in that area.
RE: Lousiana's BEST breakfast (lleechef)

I agree with all the above! But a close second would be the breakfast served at Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Bridge. Oreille de Cochon-- fried dough shaped like pig ears-- stuffed with boudin and dusted with powdered sugar, and Eggs on a fluffy biscuit covered with crawfish au gratin... unbelievably good.

In New Orleans, our favorite was Cafe du Monde, beignets, hot chocolate and cafe au lait.

And we'd definitely agree with the Cafe des Amis... We started with a huge plate of beignets, then I had crawfish etouffee with fluffy biscuits, andouille-cheese grits and two fried eggs, sunny-side up--fantastic. Husband had a tasso-onion omelet with grits and toast.
Ordinarily, we're not big breakfast eaters, but it's really nice every once in a while...

Ariane
RE: Lousiana's BEST breakfast (chicagostyledog)

The Camilla Grill was always one of our favorites. Also quite expensive but again, you are paying for the setting. We tried one morning to go to Cafe du Monde, but it was jam-packed, so we went to small private bakery across street and one block down for their beignets and other breakfast items, which were fantastic. Many locals were there, most said that the beignets there were far superior to those at the touristy Cafe.
