They are not as cheap (but still not overpriced) as the local ma and pa type places in and around the Chicagoland area but they also offer a nicer setting then most of these places. Also,
Lalo's is a family run establishment, they are not a chain although they maintain several locations.

RE: DON'T go to Lalo's (slackademic)

quote:

Maaaan, those prices. I'll take our local Mom and Pop holes in the wall where I can get lengua and cabrito. I don't need the "atmosphere" of an overpriced chain with Americanized Mexican food and frikkin sour cream on every dish. They don't even offer horchata for those of us who don't drink alcohol. Oh, the humanity.

I agree, Mom and Pops and Holes in the Walls are almost always preferable. But, if your group is going to Lalo's, you won't be totally disgusted by the Clybourn location. It is overpriced though.

I have always tried to get my groups back home to try nonchain places, but they were always reluctant.

RE: DON'T go to Lalo's (enginecapt)

Maaaan, those prices. The North Side Lalo's on Clybourn is pretty good. On Friday nights, hang out at the bar for a margarita or two and you can hear drunken yuppie ladies telling bizarre and kinky stories.

However, the Lalo's in Oak Park IS disgusting. I went with five people, tried 5 different entrees, and all of us were dissatisfied.

RE: DON'T go to Lalo's (jlobough)

JAHelgy:

Would you like to elaborate on your YUCK! comment?
