It was a large pot actually designed with a steamer basket that fits on it and then the lid fits on that so they never touched water. Would you really do it.....now there's a question I can't answer!
RE: Dungeness or Blue Crabs??? (EdSails)

I guess it's pretty easy to see what I like. 99 Ranch Market, the Asian market I go to quite often, had these babies on sale for $2.99/lb. yesterday. They were nice and feisty. put some water, vinegar, garlic and onion in the bottom of the steamer. Red potatoes went in along with some nice looking Manila clams they had live too. Put them in and put a healthy dose of Old Bay on everything. Steamed everything in one pot and yum! With martinis it was a nice meal for two.

RE: Dungeness or Blue Crabs??? Its a social thing.
Dungies: When visiting my brother in LA we hit Redondo Pier and get a dungie steamed at Quality Fish Mkt. to order. We bring side dishes in a cooler and then picnic outside. That sweet delicate meat, a slight touch of Old Bay, a cold beer and a mallet.

I used to set the pull traps, the lines and then scoop them off the poles. (ctrueder)

Rusty:

If you go to Seattle, you MUST visit the Pike Place Fish Market . . . that's where my first-posted photo was taken. This is the place where, when a customer selects a fish, crab, whatever . . . the front man PITCHES it up to the guys on the "deck" who then wrap it and deliver it to the customer.

They also sing and chant while doing all this. A lot of theatrics, but a lot of FUN watching them.

This group of folks (employees/owners of the market) have been on some television specials in the past . . . TRAVEL channel, I believe, was one of them. Maybe also Food Network . . . but I refuse to watch that channel, personally.

ALSO, if you are staying in one of the hotels in Seattle, the Pike Place Fish Market will DELIVER your selected fish/crab/whatever to the hotel's kitchen and it will be prepared by the Hotel's chef for your dinner THAT EVENING!

Way cool!

I'm still a Blues fan (because I live in Maryland, naturally), but those Dungeness crabs aren't too shabby, either!

RE: Dungeness or Blue Crabs???
