Mr Chips recalls a past visit to the Jack Daniels Distillery because he reads and sees the photos of our trip and links the memories. That happens to me a lot here on Roadfood.com. I enjoy reading of places that all of you visit or experiences that you have had.

The Old Soda thread has been a fun one. I remember that first MOXIE I had back in 1960, because several of you have commented on the 'unique' flavor of the TONIC !! Cheerwine, Mission Orange, Bubble Up are old favorites of mine that came back to me because of the comments of others on that thread.

Last night I emailed a couple of you for feedback on places where we will travel next week. I appreciate your quick returns. We do haul the paperwork with us to help sort out the choices when we head into an area where we aren't familiar with the restaurants.

All in All, Roadfood.com has become an important part of our traveling lifestyle. Thanks to you all.

RE: Trip Report -Oct 7 & 8,2005, Bourbon Trail TN & KY (mr chips)

Great report, gentlemen. There is a chain of Mexican joints in middle Tennessee called La Hacienda. Their food is mediocre, and I'm being generous here. The place we went is the Taqueria La Hacienda, which has only one location, on Nolensville Rd., just south of I-440. This is where you'll want to go. If you go to the chain, rather than the Taqueria, you'll not only be disappointed, you'll be convinced that we know nothing at all about Mexican food.

RE: Trip Report -Oct 7 & 8,2005, Bourbon Trail TN & KY (Sundancer7)

quote:

quote:

I dont know about Bushie!!! first i hear he's reading a paper called the Dmocrat!!!!---and now---flashing a Peace Sign!!!!! My my, what must those good Texan republican nieghbors thinking!!!

BTW, tiki, since I was out of town, I haven't heard who won the TX-OU game. Linked to that was the move back here to the Louisville area. It has put a wonderful part of the USA within our reach for weekend sojourns.

This coming weekend (after resting from the Bourbon Tour for a week), we will head Northwest for a week. NorthWest in this context will give us part of a day at Rochelle IL to enjoy the busy rail action where the BNSF and the Union Pacific lines cross. I love the sound and sight of the trains as they move thru this place. Then it will be up to Baraboo Wisconsin to visit my daughter and her family (soon to be expanded). She and her husband have already picked out some 'ethnic' food stops in the Central Wisconsin area for us to try. We will also visit the House on the Rock...something my wife has wanted to 'revisit' for years since we first stopped there about 10 years ago.
Then it will be a drive thru the Door County area and thru the U P of Michigan to put us in the Brighton Michigan area on Friday, again to have a nice dinner with family there. We'll come on home on Saturday, ready to rest again for a bit before another Fall trip somewhere else. We have enjoyed November on the Gulf Coast previously, but feel that we need to stay out of the area until the recovery really takes shape. Biloxi and Gulf Shores are favorites of ours and we will get there again...but not now.
This Bourbon Tour was fun as it let us have a good time with some really nice internet friends. At each of the meetings we have shared with folks from this group, we have enjoyed ourselves a lot. We were at the SoCal session and the Crabcake Fest in 2004, and three different meetings of this Tennessee/Kentucky tour-group. In addition we have enjoyed dinners and other get-togethers with individual members in various parts of the country.
All in all we have found the Roadfood experience to be a great one, and hope to continue this activity for quite some time.
I would encourage any and all of you who are part of the Roadfood 'Family' to try to include meeting some of your Roadfood friends when you venture out on a trip. Even if just for a lunch stop now and then, you will be amazed at how nice it is to meet and greet folks whom you exchange messages with all the time on the net.

RE: Trip Report -Oct 7 & 8,2005, Bourbon Trail TN & KY (Kaileen)

This former Kentuckian is really jealous. She'll keep the Nursing Home job so she can visit me on company time !!

If we win we could enjoy another roadtrip or two in the near future!

RE: Trip Report -Oct 7 & 8,2005, Bourbon Trail TN & KY (Sundancer7)

quote:

Thanks for the positive feedback. It was a really good weekend with everyone having a good time.
We did win $10 on our $30 Powerball investment. Steve is going to let that $10 ride on the Wed Jackpot that should reach 240 million. At this rate we will be buying a single dollar ticket in 3 weeks to try for one final draw!!!

I assume that I am in on that also. I feel very lucky and I like the odds. I think we will win. I have already spent the money

Paul E. We have recovered and are looking forward to the next get-together.
For us the Road is calling again next weekend. We will take a week to visit my younger daughter who is about to bring forth grandchild number 22. So a couple of days in Wisconsin to see them, then a couple of days in the Door County area to walk the dogs along the Lake and get some Apples etc. Then home. We will spend one day at Rochelle Illinois at the train viewing park they have. It is a great place to picnic and watch the rail-action. This is a wonderful time of year to take off for a few days ride!!
