Hoshizaki DCM ice machine horror stories wanted (sobolik)

I am an HVAC Specialist for a state Government. We seem to end up with Hoshizaki DCM ice machines on new Institution construction. They last about 4 years before they are ready for junking (the gear motor at about $1600.00 part only ) I then campaign to replace with a cuber for much longer life and less maintenance. (Hosh says 6 month non-cleaning is the cause) I would like to hear your experiences and use them to convince the budget people who find saying "fix it" is equivalent to wise spending of tax money and actually doing something good. Rather short sighted penny wise and pound foolish. I have had dozens of these and I have grown to despise them. Thank you sobolik@earthlink.net
