Gatorgum was definitely an 80's concoction. But I remember $100,000 Bars being around before that, in the 70's.

Good and Plenty is definitely still around. They're made by Hershey's now.

But Good and Fruity are long gone.

I also remember an "ice cream gum," that had a clown on the package:
Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry

Probably mid '70s.

You remember Summit correctly. It came out at the same time as Twix in the late 70's. Seems like I liked Summit more than Twix

Laffy Taffy is available here by the plenty. My ex-mother-in-law buys it for her son at Sams, the economy size!

Speaking of "plenty", is "Good and Plenty" licorice still around? I despised it although I though the box was pretty, Mom loved it. There was also a "Good and Fruity" right?

I've seen Freshen Up gum at a few "mom and pop" convenience stores. Wonder how old the packs are......there most definitely was a bubble gum flavor (my favorite).

Also what about Pacers--they came out the same time as Starburst (probably the late '70s) and were mint-flavored chews, I'm guessing similar to Mentos.

I loved Tidal Wave Gum... And, I preferred Bonkers over Starburst...Don't really know why...

stephie--yes marathon was a briad on a red package--I can't believe they quit making it-- you'd think the dentists of America could have subsidized the manufacturing for a while at least with my cavities

Yes! Sodacans, the Curly Wurly is a wonderful substitute for the Marathon, right down to the shape! The Curly Wurly is made by Cadbury in the UK. I've seen them at Cost Plus World Market and British food shops, but you can get them online at places like oldtimecandy.com.

Bottlecaps are still around and are made by Wonka/Nestle. You can get them on the internet but I've found them at quite a few shops, you just have to look. I wish they still made Wacky Wafers though. Banana were my favorite, but Runts pretty much have the same flavors, just different shapes.

If you like marathon bar, you will like Curly Wurly's they are just like a marathon bar and are still made. You will need to find them at a cany importer though as they are from Europe. I have purchased them online several times.

I remember the Freshen up gum as well, but Tidal Wave gum was different and were bigger pieces than the other kind. I can't believe someone brought up the Marathon Bar. I couldn't remember the name of it but I remember it like it was yesterday and it was really from the late 70's early 80's. Didn't it look like a long braid and was in a red package?

This was much earlier, but i really loved the Marathon candy bar--caramel and chocolate--very long and gooey. Loved Freshen Up gun as well--they even had a bubble gum one I think. Oh many sad hours spent in the dentists chair!

I miss Bottle Caps and Laffy Taffy. I think both of those were still available in the 80's. Also, that Garbage Can candy that came in the little plastic garbage can.

The best candy bar that came out in the eighties was Bar None.

It was crispy wafers with chocolate cream covered in chocolate and crushed peanuts.

They reformatted it into two sticks similar to the Reese's sticks and added caramel and then stopped making them.

I do remember that commercial. Man, that was a bad marketing idea. The candy "Bonks you out."
I too preferred Starburst. Orange was my favorite flavor.

on the topic of 80's candy, I remember when Hersey's Whatchamacallit hit the market (either late 70's or early 80's). I had one a few years ago, and they've added caramel. But, that didn't change the candy bar's taste all that much. As soon as I bit into it, I thought, "yup, this is the taste I recall."
