Not to overlook Akron, But I'm sure looking forward to that Notre Dame game. A win there would be GREAT and maybe make OSU a little more unsettled when we go to Columbus.

Yeah, "Strawberry Paterno" doesn't have a good ring to it. Anyway, less than a month until the season begins - can't wait. We Are... Penn State!!!

While what you say about JoePa's ice cream taste is no doubt true, Strawberry Paterno just doesn't seem to have the same ring. I would suggest Strawberry Still Won't Play Freshmen, but after last year we can't even say that anymore! Go Nittany Lions!!!

Hah, I heard (through the Daily Collegian) that Joe is not that fond of peach ice cream and prefers the strawberry flavor instead.

I really like the Penn State Creamery, with Peachy Paterno being my favorite flavor. Locally, the Cranberry Creamery in Cranberry Twp., just north of Pittsburgh, is apparently affiliated with them and carries some of their flavors.

Also, the satellite campuses of Penn State sometimes have orders by the truckload brought in. I have been able to get a few half gallons through connections at the Penn State-Beaver campus.

By the way, when Joe Pa goes to the Creamery, do you think he orders "two scoops of Peachy me"?

Today is a good day...my supplier hit town with two 1/2 gallons! No peachy Paterno...rats...but I did get some cookie dough and cookies and cream. I picked the wrong week to start my diet!

The guy who runs this site, should definately be a roadfoodie. With regard to this thread, click on eateries and then ice cream. PSU's Creamery and UConns Dairy Bar are on page 7 of the ice-cream photos.

I just noticed your reply...I was going to order something online, but the shipping was very expensive. I don't have to tip my neighbor as much so it works out better that way. Thanks again for the review...your photos are now my screensaver!!

BTW - they used to have the best cinnamon rolls there as well near the Creamery.

My favorite is Coconut Chocolate Chip-Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolate Chips and Shredded Coconut in it. When I was a student there in the mid-1970s, a cone cost 23 cents with your student ID. Non-students had to pay 25 cents.

On home football game days, the line is one block long at 10am. However it moves quickly as there are 8-10 scoopers working there.

I've done the "dry ice" thing from the Cornell Dairy Bar in Ithaca (about 2.5 hours, same distance as Penn State from my home) and had no problems with two half gallons at all. Creamery Ice Cream is also available at an ice cream shop in our area. I haven't been there yet, but am a little nervous, since this place has carried at least three different products in the past three years, but look what I could be missing!!

My absolutely favorite ice-cream place. Fresh milk makes fresh ice-cream.

I always hit the creamery anytime my travels are going to take me anywhere near central PA. It's a great side trip.

"The Creamery" is certainly Roadfood-worthy!! We usually go to two Nittany Lion games a season---and make a stop at The Creamery before the warmer ones.

I keep tabs on anyone I know heading out that way, and tell them to pick me up a few 1/2 gallons...they pack them well for travel...on dry ice. Right now my supplier is a girl down the street who attends PSU and brings home a supply whenever she comes home for a weekend or holiday. I am sure to give her a good tip each time. Sadly, she is graduating soon! I'll need a new supplier.

MAybe you can find a local "dealer" through some alumni network?

As an alum, this review brought back fond memories. Why they don't establish branch locations in the major metroplitan areas of the state is beyond me. I guess I'll just have to make a return visit this summer if I can still afford the gas for my car.

Jack Barry....you made my day with today's restaurant of the day. The Creamery is one of my favorite places to stop. Route 80 through PA doesn't have all that many memorable places to stop, so a detour to Penn State has become a part of any trip that way.

Their ice cream really is a treat!
