The only thing I left out was that I prepared grits with butter which I Had with the red eye gravy.

This was my first experience preparing red eye gravy. Forunately I had Mamaw Smith who has had 87 years experience of country cooking. I took the drippings from the fried ham and mixed coffee with it. Real difficult huh??? Not really but it made a very good sauce with my crescent rolls.

Last Thursday I ordered 1 package of ham and proscutto and 2 packages of bacon. Can't wait to try al three.

I made the trip to Benton's Hams yesterday and I bought some smoked and unsmoked ham, bacon and proscuitto. I sampled the proscuitto on the way home and it was butter tender and very very tasty.

I cooked some bacon and the unsmoked ham this morning along with crescent rolls, Mamaw Smith's freezer strawberry jelly, orange marmalade, coffee and red eye gravy. What a breakfast.

I can see why major five star restaurants like the Blackberry far and Emeril's use his products. Mr. Benton is certainly a crafdtsman.

I am planning a trip to Bentons this weekend. It is very close to Madisonville, TN which is about 40 miles from Knoxville. I really look forward to their bacon on Sunday morning.

I received my order from Bentons within 6 days of after I ordered it. Their confirmation told me that arrival date would be Nove 12........still cannot figure that out! Anyway, we enjoyed wonderful BLT's this weekend. Between the Benton's bacon and our friends homegrown tomatoes..........they were the best ever!

Just got some bacon from Bentons. It is outstanding. Broadbent is very good too, but I think Bentons is better. Got my order in less than two weeks.

He told me he's been approached by Whole Foods and Earth Fare who'd both like to carry his products. He said he's too small to work with them even though they're both small chains. I admired his choosing quality over selling out to the lure of bigger $$.

Earl,

Alan Benton and I started teaching in the same year....1968. At the end of the first year or so, he decided to run the family business while I plunged ahead in the lucrative field of H S Teaching . I have enjoyed several visits to his establishment, making sure we spend some time discussing the advantages each of us have felt in our career choices over the years!! When we head thru the Knoxville area on trips his place and the Mayfield Dairy ice Cream Parlor are on our list of places to stop. We hope to pay him a visit in October this Fall.

I had a serendipitous visit at Benton's this afternoon. What an amazing "hillbilly operation" as Allen Benton described his place. he's been running it for the past 35 years and he said he regularly ships products to Emeril & Bobby Flay and many others, those being the 2 names I remembered.
I bought a couple pounds of bacon and somne ham slices and also some free range eggs at quite a bargain price. Super nice guy and I fried up one pound of the bacon and found it to be outstanding.

Lisa, you may not be able to stretch it out for as long as you did the Broadbent. The pack only has about 10 slices. I opened mine this morning, and three blt's later it was history. I will say, though, that it crisps up magically. Next time I'm over that way, I'll be laying in a somewhat larger supply.

PP, I did indeed receive my porcine fix! (Sent you an email the day it arrived.) Have not opened either package yet, just like the Broadbent bacon......I'm going to dole it out judiciously! Maybe Sunday will be special enough to cook up some of the bacon.

I agree. Even in the "Great White North" where taste-buds get frostbite 11 months of the year, This bacon will be noted for it's smokie goodness. Mr Benton does good work.
We made B-T sandwiches and crumbled some into Janet's World Class Red-Potato Salad. It was as good or better than any previous bacon.
