(brb-vt)

 WallHD-
We have a Ground Round on this side of the lake on Williston Road in South Burlington, Vt., owned by the same family that owns the restaurant in Plattsburgh. The Ground Round burgers are still big and juicy and consistent in quality.

Burlington is loaded with local favorite restaurants with many featuring good burgers. One of the best is Ground Round's Williston Road neighbor, Al's French Frys, a fast food spot that is always busier than a McDonalds just two doors to the west and a Burger King across the street. Al's also has a popular ice cream stand with soft serve and Hershey's-brand hard ice cream.

In both the Burlington and Plattsburgh area, Ground Round has survived while Hooters has come and gone. TGI Friday's in South Burlington also has closed.
RE: Old Hamburger Resturants! As an 8 year old kid I would beg my folks to let us go to across the street to the The Golden Arches, such was the power of their marketing campaign on my young mind. As an adult I had occasion to drive by there a couple of years ago. Sadly, Kellys was long gone. I could have fulfilled my childhood wish with a Big Mack, but somehow could'nt bring myself to do it. (newwavemichael)

leethebard I believe the rumor that hardees is bringing back burger chef wont happen, there is a guy that specializes in reviving long gone brand names and he has been trying to get the burger chef name for a few years now,and since hardees owns it they have to use something from the dormant brand name every few years or there rights expire,so every so often hardees will add a sandwich to there menu at a few of there locations with the name of a burger chef sandwich, eventhough it doesn't remotley resemble the long gone sandwich, that along with proper paperwork filing lets then keep the trademark so noone else can use it,there is a rumor that hardees was late in that last filing,so there is a small window of hope that burger chef will be back, but not likely,I know I have way too much time on my hands to know about this(lol)

RE: Old Hamburger Resturants! They started out rather good, huge burgers cooked to order, a good selection of sides and for the adults they had a bar.

They did go downhill fast though, the burgers became less digestible to the point of despicable to a burger fan. In their heyday, the Ground Round was a pretty good place for a burger fan.

Something did go wrong though. I think they tried to cater to too diverse a crowd. They did not know who they were. Were they a family place, a sports bar, a chain caught up in corporate greed, or a combination of all?

What do you think, or better yet what do you know.

Here in northeast PA there are 3 Ground Rounds that I know of. One in Scranton, one in Wilkes-Barre and one in Hazleton which are all owned by the same group. There used to be one in Binghamton, NY but it closed and then re-opened as a Hooters and then that closed and is now vacant. The place itself was originally a Howard Johnson's.

RE: Old Hamburger Resturants! I definitely remember Prexy's! I recall going to their location on the Upper West Side, circa 1962 (??). It was located on the west side of Broadway, somewhere around 105th St. to 106th St. It was a typical NYC coffee shop-type interior, with small booths on the right side, and a counter on the left.

What made me fall in love with Prexy's was the presence of a bowl of raw onion rings on the tables and on the counter. Since anything spicy was verboten in my mother's kitchen, this was my chance to have a hamburger with some kick to it, and I loved it! I think that I probably ate there twice, or perhaps three times, circa the early '60s, but I have not forgotten the taste of those burgers.

While I am not positive about it, I am under the impression that Prexy's had a few other locations in Manhattan, but I can only vouch for the one on the UWS.

RE: Old Hamburger Resturants!
