If you have gnocchi, they are very often/usually made with cooked potatoes that have been riced. So....if you have potato gnocchi with pasta sauce, is that really just a degree or two removed from mashed potatoes and pasta sauce?

Having said that, spaghetti and mashed potatoes served together as a meal is just not right.

While I've never heard of having Mashed Potatoes on the side with Spaghetti and Meatballs there seems to be a number of odd combinations out there that people eat such as:

Barbeque sauce on spaghetti (never tried this one)
Chicken and waffles (never tried this either..although I like both separately)

I agree with you PamF, corn in mashed potatoes can be delicious...in fact, here in New England we have a dish known as Shepard's Pie which consists of ground beef, corn and mashed potatoes and its excellent.

When I first read this topic though, as a kid I remembered there was a girl that used to come to my bus stop every morning and eat mashed potatoes from a napkin she would hold in her hand...we all thought it was so strange.

Get some thick bolonga. Make some creamy homemade mashed 'taters. Fry bolonga until it cups. Place a heapin' glop of the 'taters in the cup. Top with shredded cheddar. Nuke until cheese melts.

Oh no, corn and mashed potatoes are wonderful together. You can hide the corn in the mashed . . . so many good childhood memories of that one.

I still eat my spaghetti like that. My kids look at me and go, "Gross Dad..Really Gross". But I love it!

Like most have said, that's too many starches for me, but delete the spaghetti, and add green beans to the meat and sauce. Line a pot with the smashed taters, pour in the sauce, meat, and green beans. Top with more taters and bake and you're close to one version of a very good Shepherd's Pie I've eaten.

Adj - That is just wrong

My Mom would call spag with mashed taters a "Helen Keller" meal, no colors all just sort of blends in.

Ash - I like the blueberry touch, maybe some sparklers for that extra "poof"

I'm also from Alabama and have never heard of it. I thought most folks only eat spaghetti as a whole meal rather than having something else on the side. Sounds kinda gross actually lol

I dont know about the spaghetti and mashed potatoes together, but my friend eats his mashed potatoes with spaghetti sauce as the gravy all the time. I'm sure its pretty good, but i've never indulged.

For some reason, I think I did have this once, somewhere, maybe in a school cafeteria or something.

If my Mom had seen it she would have thrown herself on the plate rather than let me eat it.

I've personally never ate this combo, but my best friend growing up in central Pa., State College and later Lewistown, Pa. to be exact, had this on a regular basis.

His mother would make this combination at least once a week, he and his family loved it!
