A very simple request.
PLEASE do not turn this thread into a debate on limitation, control or the other elements of the current debate over legislation regarding firearms.
This thread is focused on the activities that center on the use of firearms for legitimate cilvilian use. It is not appropriate to include debate of the current political rhetoric or proposed legislation, either for or opposed... in this forum. We have managed to keep the politics out of this thread for some time, and even with the emotion of the current events, they can be discussed elsewhere.

Thanks Mike. It is a busy time. Apparently a lot of folks are taking the post-election concerns about new restrictions coming, rather seriously. I have been busy delivering home defense systems to new owners. Many of my recent purchases have already found new homes.

Oldest G'daughter Ava killed her 1st deer, a doe, last week on their property in PA. She was quite proud as was I and her mom and step-dad. He made her help gut and skin it. Good for him!

Each auction house handles the inspection-time differently, but all allow hands on 'touchy-feely fondling'. All have the plastic ties that prevent accidential loading or firing of the handguns..sor bore-light inspections on some can be difficult. We go early..got there at 7:30 for a 9 AM start...by 8 AM there were over a hundred guys checking out the guns.

Russ I buy and the 'flip' most of what I buy. The idea is to buy 3 and sell two to pay for the one I want to keep. Five of the eighteen I bought yesterday we purchased for a friend who examined them in the on-line catalog, and set a bid limit for me to buy for him. So I have 13 for myself, and I would say 8 or so will leave me in the next month via armslist or word of mouth from friends who are looking for a particular type or brand.
Two keepers for sure- a 1911A1 clone, NIB Beautiful gun... and a CZ 452 target 22. That's a keeper for me. 3 Smith 9mm's and one Smith 40 S&W will go as soon as I can move them. I am not much interested in keeping 9mm autos.

Tomorrow there is a major auction at my favorite gun auction house in Indianapolis. My oldest son is going with me to do the 'leg-work', leaving at 5 AM to be able to go thru the items before bidding starts. I have a bunch on my 'check this out list' to examine.
Plus two of my guns will find a new home with buyers who will meet me at the auction to complete their purchases...
This will be a busy Saturday. BTW we now have three Does in the freezer. First gun season ends Sunday.

Do you ever sell them or do you just buy? What handguns are you into? ...Russ

Chris.. The Henry company has a 30 minute infomercial that plays on several cable channels. Anthony, The company President has posted here on RF a few times.
Hopefully the damage done by "SANDY" will be repaired and the Henry's will be moving out again soon. It is a great rifle.

Mr. Hoffman, get the hip done......you are young enough and the new surgery is so much better......mine is going, as it is, perhaps inherited. Mom had to have both done. She was great after that, and that was in the 1990's!

I sympathize with the need for joint repair or replacement, Michael. I hope it goes well.

The real advantage here is shooting from our back porch literally and using the lawn tractor to drag them either to our carport or the neighbors barn..a distance of 150 yards of gentle grass-covered slope for field-cleaning undercover.

One odd thing. We had left the innards of deer 2 in the field overnight. The morning raiders group came by the organs, sniffed and ignored them in the quest for fallen persimmons. Both innard piles are now removed so the neighborhood dogs won't get into them. Duff and Demi sniff deeply in the two kill spots, but haven't found anything to really "dig into". Hearts and livers were cooked and frozen for future dog food.

Congratulations Al, to you and Janet. Our gun season opened yesterday and I did see three -- two does and a button buck. But I didn't have a shot. I was hunting with my .460 Smith & Wesson Magnum. I wasn't able to get out today, but I hope I'll be able to make it tomorrow. Frankly, I dread having to drag a deer out of the woods with my hip. It hurt so much yesterday that I got a referral today from my doc to an orthopod for a new hip. I guess I'll be doing something after the first of the year.

It has been a busy 24 hours
Last night , just before the legal shooting time ended, 7 deer raided our orchard (again). One did not escape. That's Doe Number 2. It was cold and raining lightly as Janet and I field-cleaned the critter in the lights of my truck pulled into the yard . Then we hung it in the neighbors Barn for butchering later.
This morning the deer came back for more of the downed Persimmons in the orchard... Again One, and almost a second Doe (she got away unhurt). That would be Doe # 3. So now we have two deer hanging , awaiting butchering. The temp tomorrow will get up to 50, so we will get busy early doing the tedious task of deboning, cutting and wrapping the venison.
Thats three Does, We have tags for one more and two Bucks, and the first gun season ends Saturday. There is a second gun season from 12-26 to 1-6-13 that may provide some additional meat for us.
Janet has really taken to the hunt and prep work. She has learned very quickly how to do it all.

Another "tangent-gun" that never sold 'big-time' is the Ruger Charger...a Pistol version of the 10-22. I found one at the last auction I attended.

Russ I had heard of that 'Conversion-style' 30-30 but have not seen one. I passed over one of the Turkish made AR clone 12ga shotguns a month ago. It looks just like the M-16, but heftier. 12 ga does that to guns. I have the AK-Saiga and love it. I almost got the M-1919 (M-16) shotgun, but $550 was more than I wanted to pay for a piece of eye-candy.
I'll get the camera going tonight on my G22. It is the black version.
