You can head to MASA in the Time Warner Center for a paltry $400 prix fixe per person. If you don't want to drop a grand on dinner, I recommend HARU on Amsterdam and 80.

P.S. If you want to find the Fairway grocery store, you need to head UP on Broadway, not down.

RE: Japanese in NY near the Met (mad)

Oops I didn't realize the "Met" meant the museum. I'm obviously not a New Yorker. I meant the Metropolitan Opera. Also was not looking to drop an enormous amount on dinner, just reasonably nice.

We ended up at Sugiyama on 55th st near 8th. Not your average Japanese restaurant. I had wanted sushi, but this is not the place for it! Nonetheless we enjoyed the experience. I don't think I'll be able to eat Sashimi just anywhere now! All these years I thought I didn't like certain fish like yellowtail - it makes a difference when its really fresh! DUH.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will keep them in mind for future trips.

RE: Japanese in NY near the Met (Pigiron)

Do you mean the Metropolitan Opera House, or The Metropolitan Museum of Art? "The Met" used to automatically mean the museum.

The museum is on the Upper East Side. TOKUBEI 86 on 86 betw 1&2 is really great and a better value than the more popular places like SUSHI OF GARI.

The opera house is on the Upper West Side.
