If y'all are from the DC area you can get a pretty decent Frito Pie at Hard Times.

When I first moved here (from L.A.) I was happy to find that they offered a Cincinnati chili, but it just doesn't rack up with Skyline. It does work well into Frito Pie though.

I can't believe the fuss ya'all made over a stupid little old s.

My bunch of Texans always called it a Frito pie except for 1 aunt that called it a Frito boat. She almost always made it for any type of gathering and we'd have lynched her if she hadn't. JK!

No one served it in the bag though, it was always in a bowl of some shape. Usually an oblong casserole dish.

I still love it and make it a couple 3 times a year.

What a difference presentation makes... Thanks Joe for posting the photo from the 66 DINER. Now I Would dive into that dish ! The ripped bag in the original still equates to a Jr Hi prank.

And call it what you will, names don't make it better (or worse).

No one said anyone was wrong or right. That is why I started my thread "Don't get mad". I was only pointing our what I thought was a grammetical error.

The picture on the review is not a good representation. A good Corn Chip and Chili pie has Corn Chips, grated chesse, diced onion, diced tomatoe, jalapeno slices and sour cream. This picture in the review of the 66 Diner in Abuquerque is a better sample.

here in south texas i've always heard it called Frito Pie or chili pie. I LOVE it! I hardly make it because I don't make homemade chili and canned chili like Wolf's brand is nasty, so I usually just order it at a burger place or some kind of place like that. And of course it's not genuine Mexican food, but I wonder what the "real thing" is though??

We've always called it a "Frito Boat" for some reason...we love em.. I've attended dinner parties where a giant "Frito Boat" was the featured attraction..

I've eaten this treat in lots of places but no one ever charged close to twelve simoleons and why does that look like broiled cheese?

You think onions, jalapenos and sour cream were extra? I suppose it may well be that if I asked how much extra were the extras, I couldn't afford them!

The real discussion should be about eating Frito(s) pie. I like it. Starts out crunchy, then the fritos get sort of mushy. Of course you need a passable chili to start and fresh onions and peppers to put on top. The pictures don't do it justice. It is one of the ultimate street foods. I became aware of and walked up to the window at Woolworths in Sante Fe thanks to the Sterns and their Goodfood and owe them a debt of gratitude.

Please note that somewhere along the way in this thread I said some call it Fritos pie and some call it Frito pie. I personally don't care what people call it. I was the one who was told that I was wrong for referring to it as Fritos pie.

Stern's write up on this site says "Fritos" multiple times.

The website of the Cowgirls Hall of Fame Restaurant, however, calls it Frito® Pie.

It really doesn't matter though. If you say Fritos Pie or Frito Pie, you'll be served the same thing, I'm sure.

It's Frito-Lay. But, there's no apostrophe on the bag. It says Fritos. And not that I really give a rat's patoot, but the Frito pie fanciers really ought to get after Mr.Stern. He's the one who keeps calling it a Fritos pie. And I'll go along with what he says.

I sure hope someone gets to the grammatical bottom of this pressing issue soon. It's a holiday weekend and all...

The official Fritos.com website is labeled as "Frito's" on my web browser, which would make Frito pie a correct interpretation. Hmmm. With the apostrophe, these are the corn chips belonging to Frito? But the pie is not his (nor is it actually a pie) so I'm going with Frito pie, which is what I've always called it although I suppose it should be called corn chip pie ala Frito. Can someone confirm there might have originally been an apostrophe that was dropped from Frito's or Fritos?

$12 for Frito pie in NY,NY? Doesn't a 1oz bag alone cost that much there?

- Doesn't look like any apostrophe but the company was called the Frito Company. just one Frito at a time I guess. And, this is their 75th anniversary so I know how I'm celebrating. And, my Frito pie is going to cost much less than $12.

Yes but Fritos is plural for whats in the bag and not for the chip. The chip as an individual is a Frito much as on one piece of fruit in a bushel of apples is an apple. You would not buy a lb of apple unless it is processed in some way like apple juice or apple puree.

They make a very good margarita, as well as a pretty decent hamburger with guacamole on top.
