Thanks for reviving a thread I don't remember other than how much I miss Fieldthistle. He always had brilliant observations. We have had a few come back, he is one I'd like to see again.

Hello All,
KOK, I remember Edna Million.
It was summer in 1971, no, 1970.
She and I were close, at least for a time.
Sweet hot and dusty days, full of hard work,
and then a rainfall or two cooled the evenings,
making the nights clear and peaceful.
We'd sit on the tail of her pick-up, drinkin'
beer, smokin' cigarettes, (though she liked
a bit of the weed sometimes, but my asthma
wouldn't allow me to partake,) and we had
many a talks that made me feel fine.
She had a scar on her upper thigh, that she
tried to keep covered, but damn, she couldn't.
She wouldn't talk about how she got that scar,
and I learn to not ask, but to appreciate it.
We talked about some silly things, and somethings
we'd cry together over things that I...I ain't
a clue why we cried about. The best thing was
that we were together...on the tail of her pick-up,
drinkin', smokin', and talkin'.
If only I could I paint all the evening skies we
saw together...it would be such a pretty book.
If I would have wrote down the words we spoke,
ahh, even God would have cried and fallen in
love with us. But I think He's gonna send me
to hell, but that's another matter.
I miss Edith...Edith...you did ask about Edith
Millions? Hell, no, you wanted to know about
Edna Millions.

I can't access it from work but somewhere out there there's a Web site with annotated Tom Waits lyrics.

I love Tom. Saw him live back in August during his whirlwind two-week tour. Amazing show.

In the movie 'Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead' they use the song 'Jockey Full of Bourbon' by Tom Waits. The first lines of the song are "Edna Million in a drop dead suit. Dutch pink on a downtown train."

Dutch pink, from what I've found is slang for blood, but I have never been able to get an answer as to who, or what Edna Million is.

Can anyone help?
