In Fla, I agree; Barnicle Bill's, O'steens and Dixie Crossroads are great.

Long John Silver's "shrimp" taste like their "fish", their, "clams", etc. and the taste stays with you allllllllllll day. I eat there on occasion anyway, love to drown everything in malt vinegar. The only decent shrimp around here is at "Northwest Grille". We do have two seafood markets, owned by the same people that will cook your fresh picked out seafood on site to take home. It never makes it home.

I always liked the fried shrimp on the City Pier on Anna Maria Island in Florida. I don't know if it's still there or not. The best shrimp I can get now is a Charlie's Seafood in Lexington, KY. It's alright, but nothing like the fresh Gulf shrimp.

Trojha's (IN Chicago) is #1 , at least in the Midwest. Located on 22nd street. Cpat. Hooks on Roosevelt and Ashland (hate to say this....in the strip mall) is a close #2.

I wish I could remember the name of the place but theres a seafood place close to Rock Port Texas (which is close to the coast) that had some of the biggest and best tasting fried shrimp I had in my life. If I can find the name of the place I'll post it later.

Greymo- Whoops! I almost forgot about Dixie Crossroads. I've only been there twice. Once in Orlando and once in Titusville. I never had their fried shrimp, but I have had their coconut shrimp, which is the best I've had. I've also had their rock shrimp, which I think is broiled. It tastes like lobster. Definetely worth a try if you never had them before.

The best I have had,thusfar,is a restaurant named Redds Snapper,located in the heart of Milwaukee.(3 locations)Dont go there much as the neighborhoods are pretty dangerous.Will have to check out Milwfoodlovers suggestion.(Lets meet one night!)

buffetbuster- Ditto! O'steens is the best for shrimp. I actually prefer to wait at O'steens because you can browse the huge antique store next door. There's a speaker in the store that will call you when your table is ready.

A long, long, long way from the ocean, Slim McGinn's on 1st and Florida in Milwaukee's Walkers Point area serves up some outstanding fried shrimp on Friday's, dinnertime only. Lightly breaded, cooked just enough and not a bit more, they should satisfy any fried shrimp lover. Until I taste every fried shrimp there is in America, I have no idea whose are best, but I can say that these are special. I too love fried shrimp but why are they so often overcooked?

The best I can ever remember is Rusty Bellies on the far end of the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs, FL. They tasted like they had just come out of the gulf.

This is an interesting point. Cleaned & deveined shrimp, that is. Why would people want this when buying fresh shrimp? I would prefer fresh jumbo (or larger) heads-on shrimp at a third of the cost, myself. They HAVE to be fresh if bought this way, etc.

My wife's family is from there. Her uncle has friends who has shrimps boats. He gets them straight from the boat. They are cleaned and deveined for $10 a pound. Had a shrimp fry that night, no restaurant can ever come close. I am from West Texas, so BBQ and Mesquite grilled anything is king but fresh seafood straight off the boat is the way to go!
