You just reminded me of my first trip to NYC. I was about nine-years-old and my dad had to be there for a trial. He was a SCHP and had to testify about a wreck he worked involving the explosion of a gas tank on a Pinto(?)...anyway, we had a meal at the Howard Johnson's and I ordered the fried clams. I was presented with an ENORMOUS plate of them. I don't think I'll ever forget that. We also ran into Nipsey Russell and some other folks. My parents were more into him than I, but it was the '70s and I recognized him... .

RE: battered fried clams (acornlover)

quote:

years ago there was a little take out restaurant on rt 1 near boothbay which had excellent battered fried clams.
I also remember having them at downeast restaurnt in yarmouth
Does anyone have a recipe for battered fried clams

I think you are talking about The Pine Grove, they had the best fried clams I have ever had.
