Soft-Serve Ice Cream Question?

In our area both the Dairy Queens and the Culver's sell hard frozen versions of the soft-serve ice cream and custard that comes out of the machines in their stores. That's a major difference from the store-brand and regional-brand 'Hard' ice creams found in our groceries and in most of the posts above.

After a long running TV Marketing campaign, Blue Bell Ice Cream has finally entered the Louisville Market. Limited flavors available, but it is here. If you visit one of the Russell Stover Candy Outlets that are at various places around the country, most now have an ice cream parlor included in the store...and they serve Blue Bell Ice Cream. NOTE- This is NOT Soft-Serve, it is the 'hard' ice cream produced by the regional brand mentioned above.

I meant Packaged Soft-Serve Ice Cream that you find in the Grocer's Freezer (not trying to make an oxymoron).

My son recently introduced me to Blue Bell's "Cake Batter" ice cream. I wish he hadn't.

There's soft serve from a machine, hand packed from an ice cream store, and pre-packed from an assembly line.

I thought soft serve only came from a machine. I didn't think you could by it prepacked from a grocery store. Then again what do I know, I might have one small dish of ice cream about every 2 or 3 years. Chow Jim

Friendly's makes a great chocolate flavor and Turkey Hill makes a great flavor called Party Cake...but only get this one if you like it really sweet...its vanilla ice cream with pieces of cake and blue buttercream frosting swirled in...its delicious!

We have Blue Bunny in our area.Always pleased with whatever flavor I buy...although not exactly softserve.

Ice cream brands availablity really depend on where you live- back in NY State there is Friendly's and Stewarts, available mostly all over the state. There are some local dairies(Babcock's is one) that also have really good "homemade flavor", but these are not available here in Texas.
In Dallas we have Blue Bell and Braum's; one made in Texas and only available in Texas, and the other made in OK and available in only 5 states, and in limited areas of those states. Ice cream can only travel a total of 6 hours from place of mfg- so the national brands ( Breyers, B&J & Dryers) must have mfg locations all over but the local brands don't. We don't have Sealtest or Borden's here either.

If they sell it on your side of the state, try some Hudsonville Ice Cream (made in West Michigan).

Ok, now lately, the 3 brands of Store Ice Cream that I've been eating have been Breyers, Edy's, and Hagen-Daz.

However, I would like to try some new Ice Cream outside of those Three Brands.

Any Recommendations? (I know about Good Humor, Stroh's, Baskin-Robbins, Cold Stone, Sanders, and Ben and Jerry's)
