This is the bread used in a lot of famous Philadelphia Hoagies / Cheesesteaks. They make many types of bread but the Hard seeded is what they are most famous for.

Tony

RE: Real Italian Bread in New Jersey (leethebard)

Thanks for all the info. so far. The only one I've had is Calandra's. It is sold around here in many super markets. I think that's the one Frank Sinatra had shipped from Newark. I think it's gone a bit too commercial, and for my taste, doesn't quite taste like the real think...but fairly close. I gotta give some of the other's a chance. We aren't too far from Collingswood. Thanks for the posts!
Lee

RE: Real Italian Bread in New Jersey (morningglory)

A few other suggestions to the above excellent bakeries:

ERLTON ITALIAN BAKERY
402 Marlton Ave
Camden, NJ 08105
856-966-3178

A new branch is supposed to be open in Collingswood, NJ (Haddon Ave.)

Carmen's Italian Bakery
609 Chestnut Street,
Union, NJ 07083
908.686.2490

Carlo's City Hall Bake Shop
95 Washington St,
Hoboken, New Jersey ( NJ ) 07030-4533
201.659.3671

www.carlosbakery.com

Hope you find some great Italian bread to your liking.
