I was recently on holiday from the UK and stayed in Las Vegas,and while I was there I had my very first Coconut Cream Pie.It was so delicious I was at a loss for words to describe it.Sadly my enjoyment was completely lost on my daughter as she hates coconut with a vengence.However it has just displaced Cinnamon Rolls from the top spot of American desserts,and pushed Key Lime Pie into 3rd place.So now what I need to do is to have a go at making one myself.Don`t know whether or not I can reach the perfection of the one I ate in the Rio buffet though.

For me, in no particular order:

Coconut custard pie slice from Island Park, N.Y.
Key lime pie slice from Dinosaur BBQ.
Namoura square (semolina-almond sweet) from any Detroit-area Middle east bakery.
Cherry pie slice from New Era, Mich., roadside farm stand.
Coconut ice cream from Kilwin's in Holland, Mich..
Pistachio nut and dark cherry ice cream from "old school" Cantonese restaurant.
Butter almond ice cream from Breyers.
Golden raisin scone from Panera Bread.
Hot Welsh cakes from my skillet.
Fresh, warm gingerbread cake with homemade whipped cream (from my oven).

I only have a half-dozen or so, not a big dessert eater, but these are the exceptions:
1. Blueberry-white chocolate bread pudding at Zydeco's 5 in Mooresville, IN.
2. Any pie from Gray's Cafeteria, Mooresville, IN
3. Cheesecake at Shapiro's, Indianapolis, IN
4. Azteca chocolate or pistaschio gelato on a croissant at La Davina, New Orleans, LA
5. Beignets, Cafe du Monde, New Orleans, LA (also equally good as breakfast, snack, dinner....).

Banananaanas and Chocolate are my down fall.

If you ever make it this way I will treat you to the Banananana Chimi at acapulcos. Imagine Banannanas Foster wrapped in a tortilla with ice cream.

They are open for lunch and I am hungry....hmmmmm I guess i will walk up the street and get one.

The Beaver Dam Cafe in Beaver Dam, KY used to have Banananaana cream pie to DIE for, the little old lady made it fresh daily and it was the first to sell out.

Sadly, I think Al-The-Mayor said he and Janet went by there a while back and it was closed for good.

If so that would be 2 great places for pie now off my list.
