I thought I invented them. Well, maybe I did but was probably not the first. And, the first time I saw one for sale was at the State Fair of Texas maybe ??? 8 years ago. My zillas come up w/ all kinds of tortilla wrap variations. Johnsonville Brats, tha ones made w/ cheese inside, is their current trend.

About those pigies, my mom made them w/ the crecent dough, and a dog slit and stuffed w/ cheese. And yes, a gourmet treat as a kid. Sort of a lesser variation to the Sonoran dog.

The hotdog chimichanga was something that was served in my junior and high school in California. It was pure junk food heaven and I suspect a way for them to use up leftover hotdogs from the day before.
I bet some of the cart owners would make a killing if this was offered by them. I often dreamed of those wonderful dogs until I learned to make the dough myself, and could put any kind of wurst inside..I love them with garlic wurst. I've made the other kind with crescent dough, but it just isn't the same as a nice fat, fluffy yeast dough.
I used to get excited seeing them on pancake house menus until I found out they were just pancakes wrapped around sausages.. you can't find my kind of piggies in restaurants.

RE: Pigs in a blanket...the definitive blanket (Earl of Sandwich)

They're a huge hit at my house.
