I would like to think that vegans and vegetarians would be so grateful to have a place serving organic food that caters to their needs, that they would make sure the place stays open. And you don't pay in a secret room...I'm sure there is a line full of regulars watching you pay. Guilt and peer pressure are great motivational tools. Not pricing anything may also serve to confuse many into paying too much, which balances the skinflints. Of course, all you guys who drank the soda right out of the vending machines as kids could skew the average

Bushie, there was a restaurant of some sort (seems like soup-salad-sandwich place) in Little Rock a number of years ago which was operating on this same basis, but needless to say it did not remain in business very long. As you say, surely would be a wonderful world if such as this would work, but fear human nature won't permit it.

My natural skepticism tells me she'll last about 6 months tops. It sure would be great if people didn't take advantage of her, though. She obviously has a great spirit...

Mike: That restaurant performing the "social experiment" has nothing to do with socialism or communism. It is more related to the ethic of Judeo/Christian charity, brotherhood, and trust as exemplified by the Old and New Testaments.

This is an interesting article about a place that asks the customers to decide on their own portions, and then pay whatever they want at the end. It makes a lot of sense to me--------but I don't know how long before people take advantage of it. Until then, more power to them!
