You should check out matchbox pizza while you are down there. Pizza is decent, but their sliders appetizers are great. If you want an appetizer at a seperate location.

RE: Structural variations of pizza, etc. (Davydd)

quote:

What is the remaining pizza place you have planned in DC?

We've been to Pizzeria Paradiso and 2 Amys. Right? It's a mushroom pizza without the dough or the cheese or the sauce.

RE: Structural variations of pizza, etc. (NYNM)

Howz about Stuffed Pizza?

RE: Structural variations of pizza, etc. (Robearjr)

Might as well include West Virginia's Pepperoni Roll.

RE: Structural variations of pizza, etc. (divefl)

What is the remaining pizza place you have planned in DC?

RE: Structural variations of pizza, etc. (Davydd)

Wikipedia can be as bad as a discussion board where no one completely agrees. Subjects are so ever changing that they can be worthless. I've followed but never edited the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich Wiki over most of its lifetime. At one time it was pretty thorough and accurate. Now it is a distorted false mess.

RE: Structural variations of pizza, etc. (uncledaveyo)

Yeah. The knots are listed under structural variation. Calzones are hardly just a use for remnant dough of the second sentence. Or were you referring to the phrase "good stuff" of the first sentence? Then, I agree all work.

To those of an observing eye and a keen mind, I am the one who added garlic knots, not Wikipedia, only because they come from pizza dough; perhaps they are pizza without cheese, sauce or other ingredients except garlic, restructured into a knot shape. (not? knot?)

You wanted me to go to that link?

I guess a calabrese salad is another pizza variation, then, as it is pizza that just lacks the dough. It's a low carb pizza. Sometimes I also want a very plain tasting low carb pizza so I forgo some toppings. I call it string cheese, but it's, you know, just pizza without a few things.

RE: Structural variations of pizza, etc. (NYNM)

quote:

OK, but then that sentence does not go with the rest of the post. Just really good rolls to me. I can see the others as variations of pizza.

Structural variations of pizza, etc. (NYNM)

In our quest for truth, I googled pizza and found some good stuff. One idea was something I was already struggling with: what are the "other" things that are often sold in a pizza store (from remnant dough).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza
Wikipedia calls this Structural Variations, to wit:

Stromboli
Calzone
Garlic Knots
I add: sausage rolls.

Also: Ethnic Variations: Greek pizza, Lahmacun , Manakish ,Mexican pizza,Pissaladière , Sardenara , Sicilian pizza

Also: Miscellaneous Variations: Tomato pie, Pizza bagel,Grilled pizza, Deep-fried pizza, Garlic fingers, Hawaiian pizza

Also: In the 20th century and onward, pizza has become an international food and the toppings may vary considerably in accordance with local tastes..diverse choice of ingredients, such as anchovies, egg, pineapple, banana, coconut, sauerkraut, eggplant, kimchi, lamb, couscous, chicken, fish, pierogies, french fries, shellfish, meats prepared in styles such as Moroccan lamb, shawarma or chicken tikka masala, and non-traditional spices such as curry, cilantro, cumin, and Thai sweet chili.

Now, RFers, we know as much as Wikipedia. What to you want to add?
