A friend of mine used to buy Ice Cubes by the boxful when we were kids. Being her buddy I always got several. I LOVED THEM. I never tasted chocolate so smooth.

I hated nuts in candy as a kid so I always read the ingredients. The Chunky in Chicago in mid '60's had either Brazil nuts and chopped cashews.
One that I nver ate was ice cubes. It said almond on the label and I gave away the ones my Oma gave me. What a shame. I tried them later on and loved them(Turns out it was only almond extract!).

And to me raisins and chocolate are a taste treat...that's what I loved about Chunky...also Rasinettes!

cybele, thanks for the info. Yes,I do remember Brazil Nuts...and you are right about Nestle chocolate tasting waxy...less real chocolate in Nestle chocolate...oh if we could only have the ones with cashews...anything but cheap peanuts. I hate when a different company takes over a product line and alters the formula and quality!

Didn't Chunky used to come in more than one kind? I seem to remember seeing different colored wrappers, but I'm not positive.

You're right, Chunky wasn't always made by Nestle. They've been passed around a few times, but I think most of us remember when they were made by the Ward-Johnson company, who also made Goobers & Raisinets. Nestle took them over in 1984. (I remember liking Nestle chocolate when I was a kid, but I don't much now. It seems waxy.)

There were a bunch of different versions of Chunky.

The pecan seems like it would have been the best. There was a version with Brazil nuts too.

As a kid,I mwent crazy for chunky's...but as an adult with type 2 diebetes,I hardly have tasted a piece in decades. Got to try a piece the other day..and was shocked to see it had peanuts in it,along with the raisens.I seem to remember in the 50's they used to advertize pecans were in Chunky's...or cashews..or both at one time,not peanuts. It seemed to have a whole different taste! Anyone remember pecans or cashews in there like I do..or is the memory getting faded...Also, I don't think Nestle's made Chunky's then...perhaps a chintzy move to save money!!!
