It was funny because there was an Amy Joy in Youngstown Ohio where I grew up that absolutely sucked. The Amy Joy in Des Plaines sold fresh donuts you didn't have to soak in coffee for an hour. Are there any Amy Joys left?

RE: Chicago donuts? (WillieBoy)

When I was kid in Iowa and Illinois we used to spend a lot of time in Chicago. Back then there were many independent donut shops and small bakeries around especially in traditional ethnic neighborhoods and even in Wilmette, Skokie and Evanston. But that was over 30 yrs ago (sucks getting old). LA still has an independent donut shop around every corner but that doesn't do you any good.

WB

RE: Chicago donuts? There's a homemade feel to every corner of the store. You feel like you want to eat everything: the donuts, the wax paper, the racks, the napkin dispenser.

If you have an extra 18 hours a day, please open a donut shop!

Okay, not the napkin dispenser.

RE: Chicago donuts? (danimal15)

I think this is a subject I brought up here once before, some time ago, but never got a good answer to.

My wife and I were recently decrying the fact that there doesn't seem to exist in the Chicago area the type of cakey old-fashioned donuts available in New England. In fact, KK and DD seem to be about the only donut shops I ever see around here. Is this a misconception? Can someone point us in the right direction, if there is one?

Thanks.
