I'll still make "my" 4th of July pie, though. The idea came from a magazine a few years ago, and I have little doubt that someone will post a link within a day or two............(please?)

The pie is mostly cherry (red) with white stripes (the crust) with blueberries in the corner with a few cutout stars placed over it. To make it the easy way used canned filling in a prepared crust with a cardboard divider between the cherry and blueberry. (remove the divider once the filling is placed). Cut and place the stripes over 3/4 of the pie and place some cut out dough stars over the blueberry. It looks really festive.

I'll do the harder to make version with my own fruit and crust, but the end result looks the same.

UPDATE ....found a link myself. Mine looks like this commercial pie www.bonertspiestore.com/ProductDetail.aspx?Productid=USA001

RE: 4th of July desserts (ann peeples)

Thanks, Scorereader, you are correct.Have eaten this many times....

RE: 4th of July desserts (cavandre)

Bisquik shortcakes (the recipe's on the box), strawberries & fresh whipped cream...simple & delicious.

RE: 4th of July desserts (mbrookes)

A big juicy perefectly ripe watermelon. I find people often forget to bring some nice cold fruit and chocolate:

Ice cold seedless watermelon,
Ice cold sweet WHITE peaches (I have to look high and low),
BROWNIES!

Hershey's Deep Dish Brownies:

1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine melted
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 eggs
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup Hershey's Cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Oven 350. Grease 8 inch square pan.
Combine butter, sugar, vanilla in bowl. Add eggs, beat well. Combine four, cocoa, baking powder, salt, add to egg mixture beat till well blended. Spread batter onto pan.
Bake 40/45 minutes till brownies pull away from pan. Cool completely in pan on rack, cut into bars, makes 16 brownies.

OPTIONS: You can stir in 1 cup peanut butter chips or any other Hershey style of chip into batter before spreading into pan. You could probably stir in some nuts too, I don't like nuts in brownies and so many have allergies, I skip the nuts.
RE: 4th of July desserts (Sneetch)

lemon icebox pie - very little fuss and no hot oven to contend with...

2 8 oz. packages cream cheese
juice of 2 lemons
zest of 1/2 lemon, very finely grated
1 14 oz.can sweetened condensed milk
1 prepared graham cracker pie crust

cream cheese until fluffy, add lemons, condensed milk and zest. mix until well combined, and pour into prepared crust. refrigerate a couple of hours, and serve with fresh whipped cream, perhaps a few fresh berries for garnish...

this recipe came from allrecipes.com, and i use it alot in the hot weather - folks really like it!

RE: 4th of July desserts (Rusty246)

My Mom made watergate salad growing up, she would changed out the pudding for strawberry jello and call it bridal salad.

RE: 4th of July desserts (divefl)

We always called that Martian Salad when it made an appearence on our Florida table growing up.

RE: 4th of July desserts (Scorereader)

quote:

What is watergate salad???

I'm shocked, a rust-belt northerner, such as yourself, has not seen this before....
