I love Bruster's. I think their Butter Pecan is the best I've ever tasted. Thank goodness their one outlet in York is clear across town, or I'd be there every day in warm weather. I try to keep my ice cream consumption down to one day a week!

The Bruster's near my cousin Johnny (just south of Baltimore) does all kinds of strange little promotions, or at least used to. Things like discounts if it is raining or free ice cream on certain nights if you show up in your pajamas. We talked about taking advantage of that last one, but no one needs to see me in my pajamas!

After I sent my post, I began wondering if the Thursday special was throughout the chain or only in metro Atlanta. Our Bruster's has a permanent sign in the window regarding the half price banana splits. Does yours?

We have had a Bruster's near our home for several years and that has been a frequent stop for us. I tend toward certain flavors, as does my wife, but I have never been displeased with any of the ice creams I have had at Bruster's.

Frequently, we go over on a Thursday evening with a couple of bananas. When the customer furnishes the banana on Thursday - the banana split is half price. What I particularly enjoy is that I get to choose three ice creams and three toppings.

A few years ago, a customer of mine and his wife were out with another couple. On a February weekday evening, they stopped at a Bruster's for ice cream and there was a line waiting to be served. My customer and his wife decided right then to look into a Bruster's franchise. A few months later they built a new store in one of our growing suburbs and have been very happy with it.

Bruster's is definitely a cut above the other options in our part of metro Atlanta.

We brought home a quart of their Nutty Coconut a couple of years back and topped it with Hershey's Special Dark syrup. It was like a frozen Almond Joy bar. Unfortunately, we haven't seen it on the menu since.

I also love their pistachio ice cream. The pistachios are big and slightly salty, offering a delicious contrast to the sweet ice cream. I've tried several other flavors and never had one I didn't like, but those two are the most memorable.

The closest brusters to me is in Bowling Green KY and they do have good Ice Cream. The turtle flavor is excellent

I've never heard of Brusters - I went to their web site, and DAMN!
12 flavors of sugar free!

Unfortunately, there aren't any here in the Midwest, so I'm still SOL as far as quality sugar free ice cream in interesting flavors.

The one in Statesville, NC closed early this year. I always went for their butter pecan, specifically because it was usually soft. Of course, butter pecan is always my favorite anywhere. I'm still trying to find some that will equal Kopp's in Milwaukee.

I've always considered this to be a very successful chain, but I have now noticed three different stores of theirs that have closed down. This surprises me.

Sandy- I'm glad you enjoyed Brusters! I just went there a few weeks ago and our store no longer has key lime pie. I have to wait until next spring or summer until they bring it back.

We went to Bruster's yesterday. I had the Turtle Sundae and thought it was excellent. Next I want to try the the chocolate peanut butter buckeye flavor. I will continue to work my way through the menu, eating oatmeal every morning to lower my cholesteral, of course.

interesting note, the one in Atlanta on Lavista is in
a high jewish neighborhood, and lists the kosher ice creams
and ingredients.

For various reasons, I haven't had a chance to try Bruster's yet. However, BillC and I have some vacation days coming up and I plan to use some of those days to do some taste comparisons between Bruster's and Graeter's. I'm planning to try some of the flavors recommended by you folks. I'll report on my findings.

We visit Atlanta often and there are several Bruster's. I love all things cherry and the chocolate raspberry. It's only a scoop, give it a try and let us know how it faired compaired to your current favorites.

I love their key lime pie, turtle, any cheesecake ice cream I have tried has been good, their sherbets and ices are also good, I am partial to vanilla or other flavors of ice cream with chocolate chunks, candies, etc. in them..as much as I love chocolate I am usually not fond of chocolate ice cream...never saw one serving hot dogs, would be the end of me since I like Nathan's dogs, although Willie's BBQ right down the street from me has starting offering Nathan's dogs. Sometiems the ice cream does seem a bit too soft, especially in the summer months.

The Bruster's that just moved into our neighborhood is attached to a Nathan's Hot Dogs, which is also new and owned by the same franchisee. Is that the case at your Bruster's in Knoxville?
We've bought Nathan's hot dogs at the grocery store and had them at home and they're pretty good.

bb - I didn't know that Bruster's started in Bridgewater! I ate my fair share from there during the 6 months I was in Rochester. I couldn't pick one flavor as my favorite. My mother likes butter pecan but I find it almost has TOO many pecans and not enough ice cream.

The Bruster's ice cream chain started very near my house, in Bridgewater, Pa. So it should be no surprise that they are everywhere here in western Pennsylvania. I do like the ice cream, but in general, I think it is too soft. And between Bruster's and Graeter's, there is no comparison.....Graeter's is far superior!

BTW, my favorite flavor is chocolate raspberry truffle.

Key lime pie is my favorite flavor at Brusters. Any of their mint flavors are just as good. Their scoops are huge! I haven't tried the chocolate chip but I'm sure its good so give it a try!

In this area, Bruster's has to compete with Graeter's which is considered by many to be the best ice cream in the U.S. There is a Graeter's location not far away (near the gym I go to ). The Bruster's is even closer. I'm always interested in giving something new a try.

I agree with Pogo. I cannot make myself get anything but the Turtle ice cream at Brusters. A single scoop in a waffle cone is HUGE!

Brusters has excellent ice cream. I always get the Turtle flavor(chocolate ice cream, gooey caramel, toasted pecans). It is so good I never try the other flavors. LOL.
