But I wouldn't make a trip there.
RE: Bobby Flay 's New Burger Restaurant on L.I. (Buddy Dek)

David I agree with you. If you want a hands on experience cooked by this celebrity executive chef its not going to happen. Not in the Smithtown restaurant or any of the others. The most you could expect would be a celebrity or promotional appearance.
He seems to be very busy opening different concepts. I remembering see an accompaning article stating that GE Bank had extended a $5million line of credit to get this venture off the ground. This puts him in a category few independants can reach. I can also understand how his sucesses can irritate many hard working grill cooks and many others. I did eat in his Bar Amercain and the only two memorables things that I remember was a very small portion of standing fries for $11 and a deep flavored delicious poblano pepper dipping sauce all small portions and all ala carte. Buddy

Enclosed thread with wikipedia listing of accomplishments

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Flay

RE: Bobby Flay 's New Burger Restaurant on L.I. (David_NYC)

Buddy, I was also surprised by all the comments to this thread. I note in the first post to this thread that you mentioned that your sister-in-law found the burgers very tasty. That is in keeping with Bobby Flay's reputation. What made the item newsworthy was that he branched out into the price-conscious fast-casual restaurant category. With Kohl's selling a line of Bobby Flay cookware and kichenware, I guess some of the posters could be excused for automatically thinking this burger restaurant concept was just a licensing deal. I'm not sure about the deal at the Mohegan Sun casino, but the rest of his burger restaurants seem to be owned and operated by the restaurant company he is a partner in (the one who agreed to settle with the workers.)

This episode does raise a question though. When do we stop calling people like Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse, and Mario Batali Chefs and start calling them Executive Chefs or Restaurant Entrepreneurs? You probably will never again eat food that was personally cooked by them. While I would like to think that Bobby Flay and Wolfgang Puck personally develop all of the menu items served in their restaurants, I can't figure out where they get the time to do so, since they seem to be spending most of their time marketing their business ventures.

ADDENDUM: I just found out that Emeril Lagasse also opened a burger restaurant in November, 2009 at the Sands Casino and Resort Bethlehem, built on the site of the former Bethlehem Steel Company property in Bethlehem, PA. This is a full service, upscale restaurant. It is called "Burgers and More", abbreviated as BAM! (get it?) A 8 ounce Prime cheeseburger with one side costs $12; the "Create a Burger" with your choice of weeds and a side costs $14. IMHO, Bobby Flay's concept is quite reasonable in price.

WFMZ-TV of Allentown, PA has some stories and video of interviews with Emeril on their web site. Typical restaurant opening videos. You see Emeril preparing food in one of the videos, and carrying a tray of food to one of the patrons in another of the videos.

RE: Bobby Flay 's New Burger Restaurant on L.I. (Tony Bad)

Actually this place is in a suburban shopping mall...which...depending on your views on shopping...may be a rough neighborhood.

No, it is a nice clean place in a rather sterile and safe setting. This was just some random nut case. The way it works is you come in, order and pay, and then sit down with your number on the table. When your food is cooked, the servers look for the number and bring it over. On this particular day the place was fairly crowded and this very large guy, who seemed to be in his 20's, was seated at a table for 6 and this elderly couple came in and sat at the unoccupied end of the table, somehow setting the guy off. There is a counter, which is where I would sit if I was a party of one, but I am guessing this guys girth would have prevented him from siting at the counter.

Not sure if this is just a NY thing. We certainly have our share of hostile, confrontational wackos, but my travels have shown me we haven't got the market cornered just yet!
RE: Bobby Flay 's New Burger Restaurant on L.I. (swvadon)

Considering the location, that is pretty reasonable. Also, re: the fact that Bobby Flay has 'dared' to open a burger joint, to me it seems to align with his overall theme of simplified foods. I've got no problem at all with him starting a burger joint. He's got the name, why not use it? He seems to be one that takes it seriously, as opposed to just slapping his name on something to make a buck...

RE: Bobby Flay 's New Burger Restaurant on L.I.
