It was a time when there was a national thing going on with super-colossal ice cream sundaes -- something that started with a story in Life Magazine. In my hometown ice cream places started making them and offering deals.

My favorite place made a ten-scoop sundae with sliced bananas, pineapple chunks, at least four or five different syrups including butterscotch, strawberry and hot fudge, plus whipped cream, nuts and maraschino cherries. If you could eat a whole one of these you'd get it, and a second one, free. If you couldn't finish the first one you paid a whole two bucks.

I always got my second one.

RE: Building your all-time favorite sundae - Just one (ann peeples)

Kopps custard topped with butterscotch, pecans, whipped cream and a cherry.

RE: Building your all-time favorite sundae - Just one (Rustywolf)

Jackson (MI) All-Star Dairy "The Parlor" Strawberry Sundae in a tall glass

"Basement": strawberry sauce, one scoop strawberry rich ice cream.

"Main floor": more strawberry syrup, chopped almonds and pecans, second scoop.

"Upstairs": more syrup, nuts, third scoop.

"Attic": Syrup, nuts, whipped cream, cherry.

Bring the house down!

RE: Building your all-time favorite sundae - Just one (angel92)

Sadly our favorite ice cream place was torn down earlier this year. Soft-serve with a scoop of Hot Fudge and Carmel or Butterscotch then topped with pecan pieces. it was a real bargain at DQ prices (compared to the parlor prices).

Ben,
The silver treatment was the crowning touch for me. My teeth still ache at the thought of my silver spoon scraping that silver dish...and scraping out the contents of the 'extra' supply of toppings from those creamers. Nut choices were crushed peanuts (salty), walnuts, almonds, or pecans. No aresol can whipped topping either... A large bowl of whipped cream behind the counter had a large spoon in it, to be ladled out into your individual cereal bowl of 'extra cream'!

Some of you older SoCal folks must remember Helen Grace's...
