I would go with the Sam Adams.

RE: Have you tasted any of these? I get it every chance I get

RE: Have you tasted any of these? (crew84row)

I've drank 4 of the 5 in the past. Haven't had the Moroccan beer. Been years, but the last bottle of Efes I drank was pretty skanky from sitting in some distributors warehouse and then on the retailer's selves too long.

Interesting that Kingfisher now has a contract brewed version. Must explain the lighter "Americanized" taste of the one I had at an Indian dinner a couple of months ago.

Abita does make some decent craft brews that go quite well with cajun and creole dishes. Purple Haze, as I recall, is a wheat beer with raspberries, similar to Sam Adams' Cherry Wheat.

I heard "Purple Haze" over my IPod this weekend. The Hendrix, not the Ozzy Ozborne version.
I like Sam Adams brews, except the Cherry Wheat--not a fan of fruit beers. Had a pitcher of the Ocktoberfest this past weekend at a pizzeria in Jacksonville, FL.

RE: Have you tasted any of these? (jesskidden)

Kingfisher Beer, in the northeast US (according to the below linked webpage), is a contract-brew from Olde Saratoga in upstate New York.

http://www.oldesaratogabrew.com/brewlistKF.html

In a confusing ownership web, Olde Saratoga is owned by the Mendocino Brewing Co., which is in turned owned by Vijay Mallya, the head of the "UB Group" which claims to be one of the largest beverage companies in the world.

http://www.mendobrew.com/company/history.html

It's relatively unusual for a beer to exist in a country as both an import AND a locally-brewed contract beer, if by "Northeast US" it means other parts of the US still get Indian-brewed Kingfisher- or possibly Mendocino-brewed Kingfisher? Any label readers know?

Contract-brews in the US have a mixed history- with the long-lived but now discontinued Miller's Lowenbrau the most notorious, of course. They currently started brewing Foster's domestically (after a stint as a Canadian-brewed "Australian" beer), even using the ridiculous dba "Oil Can Brewing Company". Granted, Foster's hardly has the reputation Lowenbrau had/has.

But the interesting trivia about Kingfisher is that, with the shared ownership of Kingfisher and Saratoga, it might be the first time a beer in the US exists in *both* a domestically brewed version and imported version from the same brewing company since Guinness' short-lived NYC area brewery in the late 40's-early 50's.

http://jesskidden.googlepages.com/guinnessinamerica
RE: Have you tasted any of these? (cavandre)

We were over at EPCOT last weekend & it was hot (around 90) & humid. In between enjoying some favorites, I tried two of the above beers I had never tasted.

Kingfisher Lager...was dry & crisp for a lager & went well with a samosa. My only complaint was that it wasn't served cold enough. With the weather, all the beers got warm very quickly. This was the only beer I had there that wasn't on draught.

Abita's Purple Haze had a very unique flavor. I thought it almost has a slight grape after taste. This one's an acquired taste.

You guys are getting your artists mixed up...Purple Rain=Prince, while Purple Haze=Hendrix.

RE: Have you tasted any of these? (mbrookes)

No, I have not had Purple Haze. I think you drink it listening to music by the artist formerly known as Prince.

Abita Amber, however, goes great with Dixieland jazz.

RE: Have you tasted any of these?
