Amen, Mr. Mayor. I had a much better time at the Spoetzel Brewery than at the Coors tour. Although, come to think of it....these were our companions for the Shiner tour....

This was the company for the Coors tour....

I guess I just never realized that they were owned by Gambrinus, as they have been so owned since I started drinking their brew. Heck, I wasn't even legal in 1989!

Travelin' Man. That's a fun little walk for the tasting reward of 4 beers! That little saloon downtown wasn't too bad either !

The InBev purchase of A-B has not taken effect yet- the A-B shareholders have yet to vote on the deal, in fact. http://www.bizjournals.com/eastbay/stories/2008/10/06/daily22.html

That list of the A-B "family" of beers is the same as before the deal, and lists not just A-B owned brands, but also the brands they import into the US under their "Import Brands Alliance" division. They had taken over the importation of most of the InBev brands a few years ago, but not all of those imports listed are InBev beers. The most notable being Czechvar (aka Budvar Budweis) which remains (at this point) under Czech government ownership. Ditto Kirin and Tiger- neither are InBev labels.

I just drove past Shiner last week and thought about going back for another "tour" (i.e. four free beers!). I had no idea that they'd been sold.

Thank Goodness for the Redbridge. It is gluten free and is actually an enjoyable beer for those of us who can't have gluten.

Shiner Hefe Weizen probably as good as Franzikaner. Don't much care for Buttwiper.

Thanks, David for the update on who is who at Shiner, TX! Indiana has apparently recently issued the distribution rights to Shiner's to outlets in this state. I have seen signs in the window of several local liquor stores saying they now have Shiner Boch. previously we would get it at outlets in Louisville. I do enjoy several varieties of the Shiner brews.

It is interesting to read the fact sheets on each brand.

You have to wonder what changes in brewing came from (or are going to come from) the unitization of all these beer brands.

Somewhere in the fairly recent past I had read that AB had acquired the Shiner Brewery in Texas, but would continue the brand and production there. Can anyone verify or share any info on this 'deal'. I thought Shiner's would appear on this list if the deal had been completed??
