She tried to make a resivation but was told for 2 people it is not needed. We arrived around 6pm and it was about 1/3 full. We were seated at what I consider the worst table in the house adjacent to the bar on a short wall separating the bar from the kitchen walk way. The waiter was pleasant and friendly and easy going but the owner was in the center of the dinning room pacing and trying to micro manage all that was occurring. It was distracting to say the least and actually quite annoying. After we were served our drinks the owner came over and said that he had a sudden change in customers and needed to set up our table for a party of 6. We wanted us to take an adjacent table yet again in the middle of the kitchen and bar flow. I asked for a single table in the corner and was told no but for no good reason. I was immediately put off and was ready to leave as this was extremely rude. I am living in Northeast PA for 36 years in the clarks summit for 32 of those and now in the Benton township area for the past 4. I am originally from NYC and have actually eaten in the original Luger's in Brooklyn NYC on many occasions. I have also eaten at several Landry's in the west and in the south over the years. I have eaten at Bennets in Stanford Conn and at a Morton's in Stanford also. I am not a neophyte with high end steak houses. I was totally put off by the shabby treatment and by the snooty attitude of the owner. If I was alone I would have told this bozo where to go but my wife of 37 years told me it was my 65th bday and should enjoy myself. I prefer a dry aged steak as it enhances the flavor and its texture is much improved over a wet aged piece. I perused the menu and decided on the bone in dry aged rib steak as all the other acceptable cuts were for 2 3 or 4 people and not available for 1. The waiter took our order and returned 5 minutes latter to tell me they were out of that menu item. I re addressed the menu and after careful consideration ( remember I am a steak guy) I had to choose the scallops as the only other available cuts were wet aged and not prime. Also I can buy a fillet or a strip anyplace so why bother. After another 5 minutes the waiter was back and miraculously a delivery arrived and the original steak was now available. As always I ordered it rare and told the waiter nothing on it except salt and pepper.....no garlic no sauce no nothing. I was told of course it would be as ordered. Finally it arrived and it seemed to look acceptable nice crust nice smell and when I cut in it was done as I loved nice and rare. However when I took my first mouthful there was some type of stuff other than pepper and salt on my steak. It was an okay steak not very tender not very flavorful as a dry aged should be and a bit on the dry side as though it wasn't rested properly before serving it. All in all it is the LAST time I would consider a dinner at this establishment. The wait staff is great the owner a huge PIA and the food mediocre.
RE: Great Uncle Peter's(Luger) Steakhouse (Benzee)

 Hello all,
Thanks for the update Joe , its good to get an honest review especially those considering a two hour drive to go there.
Been screwed at Ruth Chris too , but hey you know that going in
Benzee
RE: Great Uncle Peter's(Luger) Steakhouse (jeepguy)

This place looks great but of all the places posted here, Peter Luger's is the one that i dream of! What do you buy a slab of bacon and just cut it or is it cured differently? Where do you buy it?

That is pork belly, which is the bone-in uncured cut from where bacon comes from. It is as tender as butter with a marbling that literally melts in your mouth. Think Kobe.... I treated this like bbq ribs and they were fine. In fact, I think that it lends itself to quick cooking, you could treat it like a pork chop. You will see this on menus in the future.
Pork belly can be found in many Asian and Latin markets. There are stir fry recipes with it. Recently I saw a large bone-in slab that kicked in my alarm as something with real potential.
