Thanks for pointing that out to me, because I do have photos from our breakfast at Knapp's in 2006. Johnny and I really liked the place. Didn't get the pie, though, so I feel like I missed out.

A very good place w/o pictures in my neck of the woods is Knapp's in Tacoma. Great pie, sensational turkey dinners and some of the most professional serving staff I have ever encountered. I think this is a must stop for you, BB.

Stephen, has this happened and I missed it or is this on your to do list?

I think people have brought up review content before, but many times the thread tends to descend into personal attacks back and forth instead of meaningful discussions and constructive criticism about the review.

Let me try to explain what's happenening: we are posting exactly the same number of reviews with photos that we ever did. That hasn't changed. We are, in addition to the reviews with photos, posting some reviews without photos.

In the past, what would have happened with these reviews without photos is this: they would not have been posted at all, at least until good photos were taken.

Bottom line: nothing's being taken away. What you're getting, in addition to the normal quantity of reviews with photos, is some additional reviews that might not have been posted until much later - almost like a work-in-progress.

Do you notice no one hardly ever brings up a topic discussion about what is said in a review but many times about a picture? If no pictures becomes the norm the restaurant reviews will get skipped over.

I think photos are very helpful. Food is sensory and smell, along with taste are not transferred via the web. I don't hear the 'sizzle' either.Since I cannot smell, taste, touch or listen to what is discussed, a visual does help. ...I like the pictures.
A review without a photo does not entice me to seek the place out and if I do not know the reviewer, it goes into a mental Black Hole.
The best feature here is the trip reports with accompanying photos, from the battery of traveling food fans here. Their photo essays are a major component to what makes this site tick.

The Roadfood books are great at telling you information about and where these places are. A web link helps for further research, but some of these places will never have a computer hook-up. Do the Amish use computers?

All things being equal, would you enjoy a Roadfood book with pictures?
I suspect that some people overlook the Roadfood books because there is a lack of photos. They would rather get Guy Fieri's book that has less listings, bigger fonts, pictures and absolutely no true research or knowledge beyond what the producers have set-up for the show.
...and now you can go to Chili's where they are copying ideas from the restaurants featured on the show. No need to search out the real thing when there is a Chili's nearby.... (rant)!!!!

The visual nature of DD&D makes it easier to discuss this topic, where many people have not heard of Roadfood. I still have to explain Roadfood.
Consider that -everything- is being photograhed and posted on the web, so there is no need to explain what you are doing. To make it easier, tell them that you are sending the photo to DD&D. That way you won't have to spend time explaining that Roadfood is the original.....

Ditto. I have read where some folks have written that they just could not bear to take pictures in a restaurant. Well, how about pix of the outside???

Back in the mid-'80s, I had the good fortune to attend a midnight showing of " The Giant Claw " ( in glorious 35mm ) at the on-campus movie theater at Northwestern University in Evanston IL. The near-capacity audience was made up mostly of half-drunk college students who were looking for a good laugh. They got it. When the big bird from an anti-matter galaxy (???) came on screen, the entire audience just fell apart. The laughter was absolutely deafening; it lasted the better part of five minutes! Boy, what wonderful memories....

Ohhhhhh brother!!! Mark, you are too much. When I saw those photos of the "bird as big as a battleship", I fell on the floor and laid there laughing my butt off for five minutes! I am SO impressed. Some years back, I showed a videotape of " The Giant Claw " to a friend who hadn't seen it before, and when the bird came on screen, he just howled. That overgrown buzzard is, without a doubt, the most STUPID-looking monster in movie history. As awful as it is, though, I wouldn't change a thing about it - just perfect the way it is....

I would rather see the picture of the restaurant rather than the food. Some times the photographs look very unappealing. The ribs pictured on today's restaurant look dreadful to me because the sauce looks like thickened jell. I know this is not the case as Micchal Stern said that they were terrific but they certainly do not look terrific to me.

Yes, The course was video production, Plan 9 showed us how NOT to do it, it actually was one of my favorite courses

While the photos of menu items can be 'enticing', I do like to see a photo of the exterior of the place to help with locating it if we do a visit. Especially if it is in an urban setting, or hiding behind another building.

CajunKing, so you're a B-movie fan too, huh? What kinds are your favorites? I'm passionate about 1950s sci-fi films, especially the low-budget schlocky stuff. My idea of cinematic bliss is a classic double-feature like " The Killer Shrews " and " The Giant Gila Monster ".

I'm looking at some of these new places that have been added since the policy change and they sound really good. Of course, it would be better to have the photos, but at least now we know about these places. That St. Francis Fountain makes me want to visit San Francisco ASAP!
