I seem to recall that there was a previous attempt to bottle and sell NY City Tap Water, maybe about 8 or 10 years ago. I recall seeing a news report about it and I think the report took place from the Marketplace in Macy's at Herald Square, which was carrying the water.

I believe this Tap'd NY water is mostly sold in take-out food shops, restaurants, and the like. Firms that have office coffee service probably buy it too in place of Poland Spring. The drinking water out of the sink or drinking fountain in too many NYC city commerical buildings tastes terrible because of it sitting in the water tanks on the roof, old plumbing, etc. Food shops don't want to give liquid away for free.

While it may seem silly, this is just one more vendor competing for your bottled beverage business. Coca Cola Enterprises has a huge Dasani bottling line in NYC (Maspeth). The local Pepsi franchisor bottles water and seltzers in NYC's College Point neighborhood. People buying a sandwich at a lunch place may want water instead of a carbonated beverage. People are going to give their lunch money to some beverage supplier. Tap'd NY wants some of that business.

Hey dere, Ralphie Boy! Thanks for the link to Jim Gaffigan. he's one of my most favorite comics. I watched most of his videos last night. That bottled water REALLY does have a watery "kick" to it!

I saw him live a couple of times and find him very funny. Glad someone enjoyed it! I always think of that bit when the subject of bottled water comes up. "How stupid do I think they are..."
