Tiger Tail a.k.a. Tiger Tiger licorice flavoured ice cream is widely found in Ontario.

The Chapman's brand is widely sold in supermarkets.
The flavour is made by several other ice cream manufacturers including Stoney Creek Dairy which has a tremendously popular ice cream parlour in the Stoney Creek part of Hamilton but is widely sold elsewhere in the Golden Horseshoe part of the province. It's also made by St. Clair which has a very popular factory outlet on Danforth Avnue in Toronto but is also available at many other outlets in the area that serve ice cream by the scoop.

Hi Aaron,

You probably aren't looking anymore, but in case you are I thought I would let you know that I just had Licorice chip ice cream at the Chocolate Ox in Nisswa MN. It was great!!! It's made by Cedar Crest
There ice cream can also be found at Nelson's Ice Cream in Stillwater MN.

My sister is in love with Licorice Chip icecream and I never hear the end of it. I know exactly where you can get it in Minnesota. Happy's Drive-In in Onamia. Though it's not there ALL the time. My sister has gone there and it's not always available.

I've seen it myself but have not tasted it (lol... not a fan of licorice!) but according to my sister, it is to die for. The color is black, but it is not 100% black like the picture above. It has a little bit of white in it as well, but there are definite black parts.

You can't buy a gallon, but she bought a pint for about $6. Kemps (I think) makes it, and you can buy it directly from them in 5 gallon buckets but I'm not sure of the price.

I'm in the Midwest and I used to love licorice ice cream as a child. I saw it somewhere as an adult and ordered it. OMG, I was so sorry; that was one beautiful childhood memory that should not have been tampered with.

For anyone in Orange County, California, there is Hans Deli & Ice Cream. They have the best ice cream! They almost always have black licorice flavor, and a whole host of other amazing flavors.

Its just on the other side of South Coast Plaza in Santa Ana/Costa Mesa. I've tried their sandwiches, and not as excellent as the ice cream, still better than most.

Try the peach ice cream ... chunks of peaches ... yum.

I've mentioned this before, but I wonder how many years it took Baskin Robbins to figure out that there was a 31 right there in the middle of the BR all of these years.

Wonder if someone else noticed it and told them.

Wonder if they gave them $31 for the discovery.

BR used to bring out the Licorice flavor at Halloween.

It was delicous and a shake made from it was incredible.

Hmmmmm, I just noticed that edible is at the end of incredible.

Ok…mission accomplished…but it was a disappointment. Last weekend I went to Columbus, OH to visit my grandmother. I made the point to go to Denise's Homemade Ice Cream because I knew they carried black licorice ice cream. Overall the ice cream was really good…but it wasn’t black and the licorice flavor was way too mild. I was expecting a dark black ice cream with "knock your sock off" licorice flavor. This looked more like coffee ice cream and had a faint licorice flavor at best.

I took pictures of both the ice cream and the store…and will try to remember to post them tonight. They had an awesome menu…but it was pricey. I tried the cucumber ice cream and it was fantastic. The buttered popcorn was also very good.

Couldn't you take plain, ole vanilla ice cream soften it a little, then fold in some anise extract?

Good news!

Denise's Homeade Ice Cream in Columbus, OH is selling black licorice ice ceam right now as a seasonal flavor! They said it would be around for another month or two! Thankfully, I have a lot of family in Columbus (Worthington, Westerville) and was planning a trip there next month. Hopefully they’ll still have it then. Perhaps I’ll need to head over a little sooner than planned.

Anyone ever been there before???

On last year's New England Ice Cream Tour, we had great licorice ice cream in Maine at Toots! in North Yarmouth (our report is here). That was really delicious!

Also, we visited Graeter's in the Cincinnati area this past weekend -- surely they'd have licorice at least as a seasonal flavor. You may want to contact them to ask. Hope you find some near you! Chris

Thanks for the info! I LOVE Graeter's. My grandmother lives in Worthington, OH and I've been to the one there many times. I love Graeter's coconut chip...one of my all time favorites. I'll ask next time I'm out there.

Good news! The Homade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen in Louisville said they would make me a 3 gallon tub for $55. They don't normally make this flavor, but it appears they are willing to make me a batch if I buy 3 gallons. That is more than I need, but may be the only way I can make my dream come true.

Lousiville is only 2 hours a way and my sister lives down there. She says HICPK makes great pie and Ice Cream. I have never been.

Thoughts? Is that a good price?

That's $18.33 a Gallon! Blue Bell in AZ at regular price is around $6.25 a gal. Add to that your cost of going to get it, gas, food etc. and pretty soon you're talking serious money!
But Hey, if it makes you happy and price is no object, KNOCK YOURSELF OUT!!.
I've never seen or heard of licorice ice cream until now but it sounds great. I love Licorice!
