If so and the chips are in a cardboard box flip the box over. There should be a circle or square with the box makers name in it. The location of the box maker should also be there.>>

Thanks, but that didn't work. I was in Aldi's today and turned over a few chip boxes. There was no indication at all as to who the box manufacturer is. I'll bet it's on the tear-off cover to the box, which is removed when the box is put on display. It seems like they go to great lengths to keep the origin of thier products a secret.

Re:Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (DLnWPBrown)

The sour cream and onion chips remind me of Lay's, even the crunch is the same. The BBQ chips reminds me of Gibble's flavoring from years ago, LOTS of BBQ seasoning and a good strong BBQ taste... almost messing to eat.

Dennis in Cary
Re:Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (David_NYC)

Well, that Canadian carton is a great clue. First question is, are the Clancy Chips made in Canada. A lot of companies in Wisconsin, Michigan, etc. buy their cardboard boxes from Canada. The Clancy's bag would have to state if it was a Canadian product or not. For example, Uncle Ray's is in Detroit, across the river from Windsor, Ontario. To build up a list of suspects, we determine who is shipping chips in Canadian-made boxes.

There are indeed a lot of good chip manufacturers in Canada. Frito-Lay manufactures the Miss Vickie line in Canada.
Re:Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (Twinwillow)

Aldi's is planning on opening in the Dallas area soon. As they are owned by the same group that owns Trader Joe's, I'll be anxious to see what they can offer that's not sold elsewhere in Dallas.

Re:Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (RedJim64)

DLnWPBrown

Well I was just at Aldi's picking up a couple of things and got a bag of their sour cream and onion potato chips. I looked on the bottom of the box as drpep suggested and did not see the maker's name but I did see they were made in Canada. Don't they have a big potato industry up there?

On a side note, they sell 5 ounce beef fillets wrapped in bacon for 1.99 each. They are not Kobe beef of course but still a very good product.

Dennis in Cary

I know where I'm stopping tomorrow morning!

Re:Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (DLnWPBrown)

Well I was just at Aldi's picking up a couple of things and got a bag of their sour cream and onion potato chips. This will at least give you a clue as to what part of the country the chips were made. Usually, not always , the box factory is not to far from the food factory.

Re:Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (ken8038)

There was a thread on Aldi's on Roadood about a month ago and as I result I've been shopping there occasionally. I agree it's very hard to trace the lineage of thier products, there seems to be no clues on thier packaging. But everything I've tried seems to be pretty good or even better, including the chips.

For what it's worth, the Chili, which also has no clues in the packaging, seems identical to Hormels in color and taste.

Re:Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (David_NYC)

I have wondered the same thing, having seen them in Aldi stores in NJ. They don't look like they come from the usual private label suspects around here, Wise of Berwick, PA or Bon-Ton (Hanover Brands) of York, PA. There are a lot of private label guys in the states around Illinois that make potato chips.
Clancy's BBQ potato chips - Aldi's (DLnWPBrown)

I shop at Aldi's supermarket on a regular basis, even more so since I am disabled now. I love their Clancy's BBQ potato chips, they remind me of a brand from when I was a kid but can't quite put my finger on it. Does anyone know who makes these chips for Aldi? I have researched on line and can not find anything about who makes any of their products for them.

For those who may not know, Aldi's is owned by the same German company that owns Trader Joe's.

Thanks for any help,

Dennis in Cary
