Looking forward to this, as I went to college in Rochester and spent my time split btwn the original downtown Nick Tahou's and Dribbles Sports Bar (for wings) in Henrietta (just south of downtown, near RIT).

I would LOVE to see the tour make a stop at DRIBBLE'S! It's a real no-frills place that is the definition of a Roadfood gem. Below is a photo I took of their unbelieveable wings a couple years ago! As you can see, they come served on a pizza pan, are cooked to perfection, and the buffalo sauce spot on! My mouth is watering looking at it. :P

Wow Dribbles. I haven't been there in years I forgot about that place.

Actually I don't remember if I ever ate any food there though , heh. Good looking wings.

I have heard that Dribbles is closed , some new places Lex's is now there. :(

Not sure if anyone is looking for suggestions but I think Louie's on Elmwood is a definite stop. Do not confuse it with another Louie's in the area with several locations-not the original (the owners of the Elmwood Louie's say they were around first, 1951) and the food is not as good. It is meat eater and vegetarian friendly.

Also, if anyone ventures to the Southtowns, Red Top is a road food gem. Located in Hamburg (10 min. straight drive from city) you order food in the little shack, it is rung up on an antique cash register, charcoaled grilled goodies are served, and the best shakes (and yogurt shakes) around plus there is only out door seating with a view of Lake Erie, which is just across the street.

By the way, if you go to the LDR Charpit, you might like the grape pie. It is usually pretty good when they have it. Tart and sweet with a flaky crust.

Yep! I was at RIT from '88-'92 (School of Visual Arts/Graphic Design). Now live in Boston. We last visited Rochester about 3 years ago. Sad to see that Main Street (downtown) Nick Tahou's is no longer open late-night...we always thought the Lyell Ave. Nick's was an impostor. ;) We spent a lot of time at Dribble's for 10-cent wing nights and also Jay's Diner and Country Sweet Chicken (which my buddies loved more than me).

When did you go to RIT? What were your favorite food places?

After I list my time at RIT, you might ask me if they had paved streets at that time. I was there from 1976-1981 (5-year Mechanical Engineering program). I really don't remember many of the places from that time except for Jay's Diner. At that time I was going through severe culture shock, moving from the rural south to living in the urban (OK, suburban) north and dealing with such new features as snow. What a rip-off it was to find that school did not close whenever a flake of snow appeared: that was always the case in NC. of course now I drive in the stuff and think nothing of it.

It's weird, but I rarely go to Rochester even though it is so close; only an hour to the 390 exit of the Thruway. Funny that I have had more Roadfood in Connecticut this year than in Rochester.

I hope you all are able to make it to September meet-up; it looks as though it will be a blast.

Main Street, and now the only Nick Tahou's, is also closed on Sunday. The Lyell Ave location is now Steve T's Hots and Potatoes. Steve T is a nephew.

Yes, I am bummed that they planned yet another gathering on a Jewish holiday; new orleans was on passover. Aren't the Sterns Jewish? You'd think they'd be attuned to this.
CHANGE THE DATE!

I am sure that the date chosen had to do with the hectic schedule that the Sterns have and this was the best time for them to lead a Roadfood tour.

Well, I just booked the flight for my cousin Johnny for the Buffalo Roadfood bus tour. Funny thing is, since I haven't spoken to him in several weeks, he has no idea it is even coming up. He sure is a good sport about these things!

September should still be decent weather. It doesn't snow until at least October. (I would add a little smiley face but can't figure it out - one of these days). It sounds as though there's be a good turn-out - still looking forward to this.

Or are they going to try and fit in places from Buffalo and Rochester on the same day. According to my atlas, they are 78 miles apart, which isn't too far at all. I say the more places we stop the better!

Yes, we will focus on a different city each day, but we will be headquartered out of Buffalo. The eating route, times, costs, etc. are still being figured out, but we have tentatively planned for the 19th and 20th of September because the weather is still bearable.

Is it already on the Eat & Greets Roadfood Get-Togethers Forum with the pertinent info (date, meet-up time, proposed stops)? That would be the most likely place folks will look for it and respond yay or nay.
